I thought the 6.8 would make a skookum round for recoil sensitive or young shooters. Always thought they should make a bunch of bolt guns for it...but Remington produced only one....

i hunt with one.16" barrel,120gn hornady sst bullets . they kill great.my buddy killed 2 does last year with one shot with that bullet.shot thru the rib on the first deer and hit the second in the neck at 75-80 yds. both dropped in there tracks.
I used the 6.8 Hornady 120 gr SST in 270 Win last year. Bullets performed perfectly with velocity in the area of 2850 fps. Both deer shot at distances of 70 and 120 yards. Only negative was little blood trail (lung shots). Both deer traveled less than 20 yards. I plan on using the same bullets this next deer season.
it makes a slightly bigger hole than a 5.56 gun, I killed my first one with it last year, a big doe, using 85 grain TSX bullets at maximum speed, it kills about the same as the 5.56 with a TSX but the exit is a bit bigger, I got me a bunch of 95 gain TTSX bullets this year, I think I will keep it. I got two "go too" hunting guns a 5.56 DD with a Victory 1.5-6 and this Wilson barreled build with now a Leup 1-6 VX-6. The 3.5-10 I had on it is moved as most shots where I hunt need more like 1X than 10X, its worth it about like a .250 savage in my opinion.

Yes I expect you will get bigger exits with the 95 grain than the 85 Grain as from everything I have read the 95 is designed to open up easier than the 85 at the velocities the ^>* is capable of. I will be using a Leupold VX1 3-9x40 in an Aero Standard mount. And using Factory Loaded Hornady 120Gr SST That is IF my Upper ever gets in ! I ordered it on the 1st and was told that it was already built and ready to ship out and that as soon as he had test fired it for function that weekend that he would have it shipped to me. Well Its Still not shipped so the best I can hope for is Monday!
it kicks a bit more, but I like it for a dedicated deer gun, I would feel a bit more confident should I have the need to poke a good sized hog, fun cartridge. Let me know what you think when you shoot it.
Yes I am hoping I like it as well I think it ought to do for deer from say 35 to 200 yards or so. There are no hogs where I hunt so I think the 120 SST should work fine.
