Learned something new today. grin

Could never make a kee kee run on my various pot calls.

Watched this vid and he shows you how.

Now hes using a metal call which will make a better sound, but I was trying it on glass and it didnt sound too too bad.

Took about a half hour to get some good sounds going. Gonna take some practice still.

Anybody give this a try?

Is he off the mark? Got a better way with pot and peg?

I dont like how he holds his striker, but you do have to press extra hard.

It's been a while but seem like I could do it fairly well on a glass call I have. Had to use the edge and stay away from the center of the particular call I use.

Paddle box call... That long box makes it easy peasy. I can Kee Kee with a mouth call too, but I love working that box call.

Thanks for posting. Can do a good kee kee with a mouth call too but never even thought about it on a slate. Gonna do a search now and find out what sort of dystopian striker is necessary for the slate gobble.

I completely agree Seal. Id also use the outer rim of the call.

But that is contrary to what this dude says. He says play the sweet spot and dont go high.

But Playing the outer rim makes it harder to slide into a lower note cluck, or yelp coming off of the kee kee.

And his METAL call is much more accustomed to making the kee kee cause they have a high pitch whine ability all over.

I can get an ok sound off of glass, but it isnt anything like that metal. I have a copper call i cant find that would be perfect for it. Darn it.

Ive not played slate much. Not sharp enough for me.

And I could never get a wood striker to play satisfactorily on slate or much else. But thats my problem.

Id suggest a carbon ransome. See how that goes.

I use a small El cheapo slate from hs strut, I think it's called a little deuce it's higher pitched for a slate call and I use a quaker boy plexiglass striker on it. Soft and real sounding. I got it initially because I don't like to wear a vest later in the season, sweating my butt of isn't my idea of a nice hunt. The call doesn't take up much room and I can carry it in my cargo pocket or haver sack.
