Rick, what kind is that first one? A rock rattler? I'm thinking it's a Timber Rattler. Ran into him on an Elk Bowhunt in the Gila. Elevation about 8000 ft. He was really GREEN! Not a Timber rattler....thats one of the few I'd recognize....besides, their range stops in east Texas.

Try this one on for size....from back in the day. 7'3"....19inches around. Is that Mark Wahlberg from "Boogie Nights" days? Might as well have been...we had fun back in those days!

Looks much like the timber rattlers I've seen around home. They often, especially immediately after shedding have alot of green to them.

Ricks rattler had diamonds towards the front, the timber has chevrons throughout.... let me try my google-fu.... I MIGHT have found it Rick...A Mohave Green...( which explains the color...) If so you are one lucky SOB....one of the deadliest snakes in America, having a combo of hemotoxic and neurotoxic venom...

He was off to my left about 15 yards hauling ass right with me in the same direction. He got out in front of me and coiled up. Damn things scare the chit out of me so I didn't get within his range. I teased him a bit and took some pictures before I dropped a bowling ball-sized Rock on his head.

Sammo I hunted rattlers for years...learned not to fug with the ones that were fuggin.....it seems they WILL attempt to protect their mates Most of my experience was with Pacific Diamondbacks in WA state.... a snake not to be made sport of, deadly and born with a bit of an attitude.....and of course prairie rattlers here at home. BIG difference is you pin the head on a Pacific, and he holds still...pin the head on a prairie rattler and they go ballistic!

I remember when I was a kid, and I was about to blast a snake with my shotgun, an older gentleman told me that "If you shoot a snake with a shotgun, the barrel will be crooked from here on out."
I told him that I reckon I'll have a crooked-barrel shotgun....BLAM.

It is a great place a pard owns it along with about four others. That one was his great Uncles place. I will take more pictures when I go visit in April. He called this week with news the gophers and dogs are thicker than hair on a dogs back.

Killed a Mohave in Arizona years ago that looked just like those pictured.

Snakes and I do not get along. This one didn't live 30 seconds after his mug shot was taken.

I hate snakes.....
Got a 410, that I use to take with me in the fall in Minnesota... would run across them in September out in the woods scouting...
use to put that shot gun barrel out toward them and they would go to strike that.. as they bit the barrel, I pulled the trigger...
only good snake is a dead snake.. especially if a rattler...cottonmouth... or coral snake...
