You're right Sam, I was just thinking the same thing. Nice rifles, some interesting choices. Loved the lever-action with no scope! For the past 12 years or so, most of my hunting has been with the .25-06 Rem 700 CDL, 6x Leupold: Mostly mule deer, a couple of Wyoming pronghorn. Regards, Guy

Both of my favorite hunting rifles are pre'64 Winchester M/70's, a recently acquired Featherweight whose previous owner converted to .257 Roberts adding a Douglass barrel with featherweight profile. Second is my .35 Whelen Super Grade with Griffin & Howe mount equipped with a Lyman All American 4x Perma-center with 2 minute LEE dot.

Here is a poor picture ( the camera was dying at the time) of my favorite rifle when there is killing to be done. A Mickey Coleman built 700 .280 AI in a early 80's vintage ADL stock. It has a #3 1/9 Shilen barrel and is silly accurate with both the 120 grain NBT and 162 AMAX: here is a victim of the .280 AI 120 NBT combo. A small forkhorn buck I killed a couple years back while still hunting up a ridge: A Tikka T3 .243 is also a favorite, especially when steep rough country is on the menu, but I can't locate a picture right now.

It is more the gun than the game. I like taking the older guns out for a walk and using them the way they were made to be used...

Here is another house favorite rifle that will make it into the hunting rotation ASAP. Model 7 .243 in an Accurate Innovations stock ( http://accurateinnovations.com/) Its damned near as accurate as the Tikka T3 with the 95 grain NBT.

Ken, I need to take a pic like that w/my Winlite 300. I was hunting it 2008-2010 and have pics of deer posted but sans the rifle. I joined the fire in 9/2010 and wasn't taking pics FOR here. Oh well. Jerry

My first antelope fell to the Tikka SL in .223. It ain't classy but when it comes to 'tools', it can hardly be beat. Light and super accurate (gots its twin in .308)

First year production 700 ADL in 25-06 with more than 3000 rounds down the tube. Re-stocked it in the early 80's with a nice piece of maple from Fajen. I gave this rifle to my Dad when his 270 BAR crapped out on him. I got it back after he passed away in 2008. He loved this rifle. He told me once that of all the firearms he had owned, this was by far, his favorite. I had 'replaced' it with this 25-06. Picked up the rifle at a pawn shop for under $200. Douglas barrel on it and re-stocked it with another Fajen stock.
