So far I've killed deer in 4 states with this rifle. Mickey Coleman build it for himself and I drove up and bought it from him sometime in 2005.
Howa action, 250AI
Deer hunting with shortactionsmoker in Ky.
Nice rifle. Cool cartridge. Nice buck!
7mm-08 NULA.....Nosler 120gr BT. A rainy day, late season trophy.
My go to for the last 5 years or so
Model 70 fwt 30-06, 165gr Accubonds
Great start to the thread.
Sammo,
Don't tell Stick but here's what I've been using for deer and elk the past three years...(I know...I know..they're a goatfück-being fücked by another goat-while a Texan watches!).
Not to mention, I've been lobbing boolits with the B.C. of Hillary in a muumuu...
Seriously, I've been in the thick stuff recently and the short length and light weight are a bonus. Don't need tack drivers for one shot!
9.3 Mouser with Hornady 286 gr at ~2400 fps
757 Mouse with (gasp!) 175 gr RN (the horror...the horror)
77/44 with 300 gr WFN
P.S. I did get an antelope last year with the Tikka in .223.
Mickey Coleman built 6 BR
Model 7 action. Factory Laminated stock
1/10 twist #4 Douglas barrel. Weaver 2-10 scope.

Custom .30/06 on Tikka T3 action. #6 barrel

My go to for the last 5 years or so
Model 70 fwt 30-06, 165gr Accubonds
I love that rifle. I wish I had one just like it.!!
This one is a first model Newton in 30 Newton. I've killed several elk with it and like it more and more.
This on is chambered in 256 Newton be is one of my favorite rifles to shoot.
One of my favorites:
.270 on a commercial Mauser action with a Krieger barrel and Larry Caudill stock. I actually gave this one to my son-in-law in December--he wants to start hunting deer with his brother up in Nebraska. I'll miss it, but it went to a good home...
Sam - I'm not sure I have A favorite rifle. I have a few that like/hunt a lot.
Remington Model 6 270 Win. I have another just like it in 06.
Win 70 FTWT, 6.5X55
Tikka T 3 Lite 270 Win
Win 70 Winlite 300 WM
I have a Custom 98 Mauser, 284 Win. I'm not finished scoping it and don't have a pic yet.
Please don't make me pick ONE. Just for deer it'd probably be Tikka 270 (???)

sorry...you asked
My favorite. 84M in 338F with a Leupold VX-2 3-9 w/CDS. Been shooting a variety of bullets, here it's 160 TTSX at 3050+.
Pair of 375s
R700 MR 708 in a McM MR Edge NBT 120gr.
257 WBY ULA
Not seeing any big a$$ tactical scopes showing up. Hmmmm...
Kimber 7-08 and 120 TTSX took this blacktail buck. Now using a 3-9x SWFA and 162 AMAX.
The last few years its been these two Sammo....both .223AIs
This is my Kimber Montana in 308. I have always liked a 308 Winchester and this one has become the centerfire rifle I grab most often. The stock has been built up in several areas to make it feel fuller and then painted. The barrel has been cut back to 20 inches. It is a very consistent shooter and a keeper.
This is my Husqvarna 30/06. I think everybody needs at least one 30/06. This one has the look, feel and accuracy I want at a price that was just ridiculous.
This one is a Remington Mod 7 custom in 338Fed. Just because….I like it and don't care If the 338 Fed is a commercial flop. It does exactly what I want from it and is one handy little thumper.
Rem 7600 High Brass bought me after he got my 760.
Rem 660 350 mag with a Leupold FX-II
Rem 760 30-06 with a Vari-X III 2.5x8 post & duplex reticle
I bought it the year High Brass was born. He loved this rifle!
Savage 99 300 Savage VX-II 1x4 with a Premier Reticles #4
M70 classic FW 30-06 I bought from Brad. I had Redneck put this recoil pad on it. The pic shows a 6x42 but now has a 6x36 with a post & duplex reticle mounted in a low DNZ mount.
Model Seven 7 SAUM with 160 grain Partitions.
I call this my bigstick special montucky super chicken buck killer.
It can kill booner bucks and bears at 2000 yds using the windshield.
woohoo
Now if Ingwe would just donate a stock sticker I would be Uber!
Jolly Roger and Texas Flags are taken........
What would you like?
I like petting zoo's, so I think the Texas sticker would make me Uber!
Thanks Ingwe
Your traditional lever gun is pretty Uber as it is....
Been pretty much a one gun guy for a while. Remington 700 KS in 300 Weatherby, action slabbed, Answer muzzle break, bolt fluted and skeletonized by Karl, Tubbs firing pin, Timney trigger, Swarovski Z-5 in Talleys.
Really liking this matched pair of custom Pre-64s the last couple of years
240 Weatherby
220 Wilson Arrow
My Faux TI .223 Rem 700 1 in 12" Shoots 50 Vmax and 50 TSX to the same hole. TI take off stock painted by me. Have made some unreal shots with this Jewell its not for sale. Pig and coyote killer...
My deer killer 7mm Rem Mag Beretta Mato. Its heavy and cumbersome but It seems to be a big buck attractant as I have killed all my good bucks with it. Even missed one this year with it.
And it shoots 140 TSX's into 3 shots groups like this consistently.
And 5 shots groups like this. Consistently
There is a 6.5-06 in the works hoping it joins the favorites club this fall.
Oh yea nice pics and Rifles fellas
Of late my 270 Montana. Can't see me using much else unless I am chasing the big bears or buffalo.
That said, this summer I will haul my 20 year old Rem 700 LaBounty rebored 338-06 up to Idaho for good. A fair bit of critters have dropped to that rifle, a handful of elk, a grizz and a black, a nilgai, hogs, a couple of mule deer. Need something more there than an AR and an old Ruger 44 Carbine there.
Kimber 84M, Rebarreled w/ 8" twist Hart chambered in 7mm-08AI finished at 23", wearing a 3-9x42SWFA SS. This buck fell to a 150 Scenar L:

HB that Tikka is SWEET!!!! I'm a huge Tikka fan...ScottyO.
Thanks for all the great pics!
Kinda neat to see what everyone is using(and hunting)...
You're right Sam, I was just thinking the same thing. Nice rifles, some interesting choices. Loved the lever-action with no scope!
For the past 12 years or so, most of my hunting has been with the .25-06 Rem 700 CDL, 6x Leupold:
Mostly mule deer, a couple of Wyoming pronghorn.
Regards, Guy
Both of my favorite hunting rifles are pre'64 Winchester M/70's, a recently acquired Featherweight whose previous owner converted to .257 Roberts adding a Douglass barrel with featherweight profile. Second is my .35 Whelen Super Grade with Griffin & Howe mount equipped with a Lyman All American 4x Perma-center with 2 minute LEE dot.
HB that Tikka is SWEET!!!! I'm a huge Tikka fan...ScottyO.
Thanks. I got lucky on that rifle. I found it languishing on the used rack in a local gun shop and I was able to liberate it and give it a good home.
Here is a poor picture ( the camera was dying at the time) of my favorite rifle when there is killing to be done.
A Mickey Coleman built 700 .280 AI in a early 80's vintage ADL stock.
It has a #3 1/9 Shilen barrel and is silly accurate with both the 120 grain NBT and 162 AMAX:
here is a victim of the .280 AI 120 NBT combo. A small forkhorn buck I killed a couple years back while still hunting up a ridge:
A Tikka T3 .243 is also a favorite, especially when steep rough country is on the menu, but I can't locate a picture right now.
It is more the gun than the game. I like taking the older guns out for a walk and using them the way they were made to be used...
Here is another house favorite rifle that will make it into the hunting rotation ASAP.
Model 7 .243 in an Accurate Innovations stock (
http://accurateinnovations.com/)
Its damned near as accurate as the Tikka T3 with the 95 grain NBT.
Winchester 1895 in 40-72...
Ken, I need to take a pic like that w/my Winlite 300.
I was hunting it 2008-2010 and have pics of deer posted but sans the rifle. I joined the fire in 9/2010 and wasn't taking pics FOR here. Oh well.

Later this year, that rifle is going to Africa. So,maybe a couple of african animals will have their pic with that rifle.
Winchester 1886 in 40-65...
My first antelope fell to the Tikka SL in .223. It ain't classy but when it comes to 'tools', it can hardly be beat. Light and super accurate (gots its twin in .308)
First year production 700 ADL in 25-06 with more than 3000 rounds down the tube. Re-stocked it in the early 80's with a nice piece of maple from Fajen.
I gave this rifle to my Dad when his 270 BAR crapped out on him.
I got it back after he passed away in 2008.
He loved this rifle. He told me once that of all the firearms he had owned, this was by far, his favorite.
I had 'replaced' it with this 25-06. Picked up the rifle at a pawn shop for under $200. Douglas barrel on it and re-stocked it with another Fajen stock.
They can take my guns away and I will continue to hunt. I have killed more game than some here on the Campfire with a solid grill guard...
Not gonna be taking many bears or elk with this one, but Granddads Uncles old Marlin M94 25-20 is a great companion on a small game hunt. Shooting cast bullets from one of 3 different molds, it does a good job.
Later this year, that rifle is going to Africa. So,maybe a couple of african animals will have their pic with that rifle.
GOOD LUCK, ole buddy, ole friend, ole pal.........
can I go w/you?
Jerry
Since getting this rifle its been pretty lucky for me - at least when it comes to antelope. I suck at pretty much any other hunting but have fun chasing lopes with my Kampfeld .243.
Uh, yeah...
On a lighter note:
TURKEY...it's what's for dinner!
Jerry
Uh, yeah...
That's what I'm talking about!
O m -
So nice, congrats.
I'd trade ya whitetail for goats like that.
Jerry
DD- Shraps "solid grill guard" might have come in handy on your Ford!
Shrap, I nailed that turkey on the last day of the season up in Iowa back in 2011. Don't tell anyone I didn't have a license.
Original 1876 Winchester in 45-75...
Leadminer, I duuno. Which costs more, a grill guard or a new grill and hood? At the time the grill and hood (painted) were running $1200 at the local Ford dealer. I dunno squat about grill guard costs (installed).
Let's see 'em!
A pic(or two) of your favorite hunting rifle from the last few years.

No chit talking either....grin
Mdel 700 in 260. Dropped a couple of does the past season. Nothing pic worthy.
Montana in 308 is hard to beat when hiking.
Ed, that is a beautiful 70 in a great chambering.
Uh, yeah...
Is that what they mean by a 'grilled' turkey?
I reckon. I woulda thought folks out that way would be used to seein' such things, but apparently not. Got a lot of funny looks drivin' along like that. Once we got into Nebraska they treated me like one of their brothers.
Ya just never know about people until you drop in, hey?
Dan
PS: my other gun is a Benjamin 312
Plain Jane. M700 -06 in a custom syn stock. She weighed 7lb 2oz with the scope back in the mid 80's when she was young. Gained a little weight since then because of all of the layers of paint.
Walt. P64 375 aka Black Rifle.
Haven't killed anything with my truck, that's why it's called Dodge.
The 250-3000 has always been my favorite cartridge since I started hunting big game. First rifle was a Savage 99 EG and the last few years my favorite rifle is a Savage 99 A.
I purchased the rifle from the widow of the original owner who had Charlie Counoyer of South Milwaukee, WI checker it. The sale included the original gun shop purchase receipt, hang tag and manual.
Couple up close snap shots.
First whitetail I shot with it.
Last whitetail shot and had mounted.
The 250 Savage works on bear too.
This .450 Marlin has always been a favorite of mine, though it really hasn't killed too much. This Montana Shiras bull and a doe whitetail. Its been carried a lot in a scabbard, over a lot of rough miles though. It just hasn't been with me when the shot opportunities present themselves very much.
Used this one on the last deer of the season and it may become one of my new favorites. Accurate, lightweight, fun to shoot 7mm-08 Marlin XS7 stainless from Whittaker's. Since I've only got about $500 in the setup with the Talleys and Nikon Monarch, I'm not even scared to rough it up a bit out in the field.
Uh, yeah...
That's what I'm talking about!
Only thing that would make it better is if the truck were a Pre-64
This my current hunting rig:
700 stainless SA trued up by Beanland.
3 Bartlein 2B barrels chambered by Mike Bryant, 6.5x47L 8" twist, .308 10" twist and 22-250 8" twist.
Manners EH3
Timney Trigger
PT&G bottom metal
Bushnell 3-12 LRHS
Burris XTB bases
SWFA rings
The Coyote was taken with the 6.5x47 barrel.
Been doing load development on the .308 barrel lately. This one is promising if it turns out to be repeatable.

Must be a Ford thing... Had a turkey smash the windshield of an E350 ambulance about 5:00am one morning going 55mph with lights and sirens. Probably surprised us in the unit as much as it did the turkey.

Pair of 375s
I love the one on the right!
I have a soft spot for this 721 my dad gave me. Dropped it into a takeoff 700 stock a couple years back. It's an '06 but I've always wanted to have it bored out to 338-06.
And this 77 in 280 has been as dependable as I could ever want, although most of the time anymore it sits in a boat paddle instead of the wood.
This one has been getting more and more fun though, one of the superlights in 7-08.
But maybe I should use this more? My daughters Model 7 that she insisted I paint for her when she was 6. It's pretty classy....
Current caribou rifle (last 3 years), A M98 with 27" .30-06 "Finnish sniper barrel" from Sportsman's guide to replace the original but ruined .270 bbl. When I fired for group last fall before hunting, the first two went a bullet diameter apart vertically, but not centered to aim point. Two clicks on the Leupold VXIII 3.5-10 centered the third round to point of aim horizontally, and directly between the first two vertically. At 300 yards. I've posted that one before, so won't again here. Proceeded to kill 3 caribou shortly after at about 150, 290, and a ranged 433. Seems to work.
Was gonna go out and shoot a t least 3 rounds today just for grins, but chill factor was pushing -20. I'm not that desperate yet..... :
Off subject, but here is a recent sunrise I've been meaning to post somewhere....

Jerry,
I have not touched the rifle or it's zero since I bought it in 1985, on sale for ~$200, other than to hunt with it. It was my first centerfire. It is in my Son's posession now.

I'd have to look up precise details but James Anderson of Newell, SD built it off of one of those cheap Zastavia mini-Mausers as I mentioned. He previously worked for Dakota Arms and is a real artisan and a very nice gentleman. The furniture is AAA Walnut.
The scope is a Bushnell Elite Tactical and this winter this rig got it's work-out on coyotes.
In keeping with the guidelines, which apparently others have a hard time following (grin), here's a couple pics of my favorite hunting rifle (singular) from the last few years; Kimber MT 308 Win:
Outstanding!
Bull........... elk that is.
Funny how our rifles are more favored when propped against GAME.
Jerry
Also, like a stock CZ 527 .204 if the snow allows me to get within 350 or so.
An older Kimber Classic in 7mm-08 that has taken 4 Whitetails to its credit. Recently had Adam Bentley of Dresden Gun Company rebarrel it to an 8T 243 and I decided to restock it. So this is my new Deer rifle.
Another rebarreled Kimber in 17 Rem. This time a Montana.

Just going through the thread and there are some nice rifles posted!
Great critters and pics as well!
Thanks for posting!

Hey George! Happy Easter to you sir. It had a Leupold 3.5-10 with an M1 turret in that pic, now wears a Bushnell LRHS.
Drea,m hunt for sure, thanks!
Chip
A new favorite picked up from Whittaker's. Marlin XS7 stainless 7mm-08 with Leupold VX-2 3x9x40. Really enjoyed carrying this rifle. Will probably change the scope to a 6x36.

Bob,
It's a PM II 10X42. Amazing scope!
Chip, the very same to you. I thought it was a Leupy with and add-on turret on your rifle but wasn't sure.
How do you like the LRHS; I'm very interested in getting one.

My latest plan is to use two rifles for hunting deer.
Both 270's, both have a 6x36 LR, both shoot 140 AB's.

Sweet rig!!!!!!
Now I see why you were blowing out the Nosler Patriot in 7mm-08. Its a sweet shooter and luv the trigger.
The HCR ain't too shabby neither.
Best,
GWB
Coming from the 24HCF Gunfather I'll take that as a compliment! That Nosler will shoot though, bro, as I'm sure you know by now.
looks like it's a blast killing rodents up your way!

sub-moa at the range @ 100 yds.
I took it with me on the 24hr hog hunt in Crystal City. However I took the 376 Steyr first morning and limited out (only let one shoot 4 hoglets). Consequently I did not get a chance to employ it. Went to the Petting Zoo for a couple days last week but only snared a hog and I did for him with a Pistola..........
I'm hoping to head back Thursday and bloody the Patriot on a hill country hoglet.

Winchester M70 Supergrade, 300 WSM. Got it from a friend already zero'd along with 24 rounds of his handloads. Loaded with 150 gr. Sierra Spitzers. Made 24 one-shot kills with it.

My M70 300 WM has been getting some use again. It's factory except the barrel has been cut down to 23 inches. Shooting a 180 NP with 76 Grains of RL22.
My favorite and most used rifle is probably my M70 Supergrade in 300 Remington Ultra Mag. It's long and heavy but has been through some tough hunting conditions. It seems to attract the skin head animals.

Great thread. From eye candy to plain Jane, classics to uber modern but all for the hunt!
I tend to cycle rifles
This Nosler Custom Sporter chambered for the 325 WSM was my go to hog thumper for several years.
I've perforated quite an number of porkers with it.
The illuminating reticle on the Leupold scope sure helps at dark-thirty.
JAPPFT,

Sakohunter264, I'd love to hear about your 6.5, what it likes etc. I have it's brother...just starting the wring out phase with it.....

Not Sakohunter, but ne'er-the-less.......
Being the rifle looney that I am, I'm always on the lookout for something I can't live without. I may not know that I can't live without it till I spy it.
Found this one a while back. It had been previously enjoyed in a conscientious manner. The previous owner was nice enough to glass bed the action, free float the barrel, install a Sako extractor in the bolt and do a trigger job.
Remington 673 Guide Gun, 350 Rem. Mag
Never did wring out this rifle, but I did load a couple different load densities. The 58.2 gr. load is what Sierra publishes as their "hunting load" for the 350 Rem Mag. As to recoil, it has a pop, but it was nothing like an unbraked 300 RUM or a 458 Lott.
Here are the second and third groups fired through the rifle after I got it "on paper".
As do many, it followed someone else home a while back.
JAPPFT,
GWB
I luv perforatin' porkers.
Here's one I took just before dark-thirty in the evening with the 350 Rem Mag guide gun.
Hit him at the point of the shoulder with a 225 gr. Sierra spitzer. He just folded.
Not up to my usual standard on the photo, but I put my good camera in the shop for cleaning and left my point and shoot at home. All I had was my cell phone. It does not seem to couple too well in the gloaming.

That would be 42... in dick inches
These are currently my three favorite deer caliber rifles.
Top is an R.W. Hart Custom in 7-08 with a Kahles CL.
Second is a '55 Winchester Model 70 FWT, 270 Win. in a McMillan with a Kahles.
Bottom is a CLR/NULA in 7x57 with a Leica.
I am not yet sure which I will take to Utah this fall for a Mule Deer hunt. I guess whichever one I feel the most comfotable with at the time.
Weight wise, they go from heaviest on top, at 8.5 lbs, to lightest on the bottom, at 7 lbs, with the FWT weighing in at 8 lbs.
donsm70
Geedub, I load my .350 with 200 gr Horn spire pts and a starter dose of TAC for 2725 fps for Whitetails. It shoots that easily under an inch @ 100. On the farm I have a makeshift range maxed at 340 yrds and the same recipe will shoot 2.15-2.25 at 340. We have run the 200 TSX up to 2925 with TAC and good accuracy...but the Elk didn't cooperate.
A couple of years ago a 673 6.5 followed me home. Last year I hastily scoped it before Deer Season and the second load with 125 NPT went into .800 @ 100 at a sedate 2900 so it went hunting with that. Lots of load work to do but I expect to see 3000 with 130's...albeit the 125 load feels like a .260 at the shoulder and thats hardly a bad thing.
In my mind for a factory rig in odd chamberings...the 673's want to shoot.....
Didn't realize we had so many model 600 fans on the fire:) I'll put up a couple more - rifle on the left is a lightly used 6.5MM mag, this was one of my dad's guns but nobody ever liked shooting it much!! Rifle on the right was my mother-in-laws and she was kind enough to give it to me!! Its an early production .308. Neat little rifles.

I only shot one bull.
Husqvarna M46 257 Roberts and Husqvarna M46 9.3x57.
Almost identical except for bore and sites. If I pick one up it feels and points the same as the other.. until you pull the trigger and the 6 1/2 lb 9.3 actually kicks a little.
Zastava Stainless in 30-06. Originally came in the synthetic stock but threw a Boyds Walnut on it. Warne mounts and Redfield sight.
Simple and inexpensive, but an honest 1 moa gun. 180g Interlocks at 2800fps, seems to work and well...
Nice straight grain streaked piece of wood you got from Boyds. The Tiger is both subtle and noticeable. Oxymoron but, true.
I thought you'd Parkerized the action until I read your comments.
Yes I was delighted with that piece of wood. Just the semi inletted Field Design stock.
Thanks.
I wasn't much of a picture taker and never with a rifle, critter and me.
Me either. I may have 2 pics of deer hanging that someone else took and gave to me. I carry enough junk without a camera and I don't even know if my cell phone can take delayed pics. Dead stuff all looks same - bloody and dead - to me anyway.
But I would like to see pics of your rifles.
I hope you didn't trim the bear rug with that riding mower.

Got a few go to hunting rifles, but more often than not, I grab my Model 7 243. Nothing too special, older rifle with lots of hunting wear. I adjusted the trigger and put it in a Predator model stock which naturally gave it plenty of free float. Stuck a US made Burris compact on top. Like I say, nothing special but it shoots like a laser beam.

Thanks. It is a Sterling Fox 12 gauge that belonged to my Grandad. I take it every year or two and hunt it. Love the handling and try to enjoy it instead of making it a safe queen. Here's another Osceola I took with it.
This was several years back. It's a 700 VLS in .223. I don't have that rifle anymore but I have the same model in another in the .308 flavor that I like a lot.

OMG... one of the finest photos I've ever seen on the campfire... couldn't be more serious. If that's not framed and hanging on your wall 'm going to drive up to Wolf Point and kick your azz.... ok, maybe with the help of four or five Indians
Here's one I particularly like. Ruger Hawkeye .308 Win, lefty style. Belongs to Daughter #1 who used it to take her antelope at 360+ yards last October.
Here's another, a Ruger MKII .223 I picked up in 2014 off the used rack at Cabelas. Already had a Burris FF-II Ballistic Plex scope in the rings, same scope I use on most of my rifles. Shoots half-inch groups with handloaded 40g V-MAX and BTs. Not legal for big game in Colorado but a great companion for my heavy barrel .22-250.
A tremendous photo worthy of a tremendous buck, shot with the "right" cartridge... doesn't get better.
That is a stunning picture...

It was awesome, but I never shot them, I was just the guide. They were both shot with my rifle though. The same client shot a 42" Bull moose on November 22nd, 3 trophy animals on the same hunt, the whitetail scored just shy of 172. All shot with the 280 Ackley and 140gr TTSX.
Whoever took this picture should be a professional. Truly wonderful work.
Both deer are nice but that whitetail is an absolute whopper!

Thanks - I like them a lot. Rain? Snow? Scratches and dings? Who cares???
The .338WM has a handy 22" barrel provided by Bear Paw Jack/Caribou Jack. It gets 2742fps with a 225g AB and H100V and is delightfully accurate - banging the steel at 600 yards is no big trick and I've hit clay pigeons at that range with it. Bought one of the cdnnsports.com $499 Ruger .30-06's with the 20" barrel as a wedding present for an April-to-be son-in-law. I was worried about the blast factor but it turns out not to be much different than my 22" -06 rifles. (Yup, I shoot them before I give them away. Gotta get them sighted in...)
A Guide Gun in 9.3 would be a sweet rifle for serious work - hope it works out well. Ever since they came out I've figured if I was going to AK to hunt it would be a good excuse for a .375 Ruger. Can't really justify one for Colorado.
Stop doing that !

Sure would like to put a Pa. Black Bear in front of this one (Ruger M77RSI MKII, 30-06).
No luck again this past year.
Played me some Kimber roulette and hit the money with the 84M Classic Select in .257 Roberts from Rylee here:
100 gr NBT & Hunter seems to work rather nicely on those Pennsylvania mountain bucks!
Whoever took this picture should be a professional. Truly wonderful work.
Both deer are nice but that whitetail is an absolute whopper!
Dang. That whitetail is a monster. What a photo!
Great DOUBLE Score---RIFLE
& an Old Warrior

Here's a couple nice ones for when I'm sitting in the blind, 308 and 280rem M70 Featherweights.
I like these for still hunting and stalking. Forbes model 24B 25-06, Nula model 24 and Kimber Montano model 84L both in 280ai.
I'm looking for a Forbes, ULA/Nula in 7-08 if anyone knows of one, let me know please!
"Little Ugly", the super 8.
VZ-24 action, added a Wisner safety and a Dayton Traister trigger. Had a milsurp Yugo 8x57 barrel that I picked up for $40, still in the cosmo. Sent it to ITD had it screwed together and the whole thing black parked. Barreled action went to McMillan for a Coyote Bomber stock. Wearing a Weaver Classic K4 in Leupold mounts and a Bandera sling.
Love this rifle, there isn't anything that I would feel nervous about hunting with it. Good shooter with 200gr Hot Cors over 53.1gr CFE223. If I had to get down to one, this would be it.

Why do you call it "Little Ugly"?
That's one of my Fav McSwirls.

Couple of reasons really. First, it's currently the only rifle I own that isn't wood/blued. Second, read an old article in "Rifle"(I think) a while back about Phil Shoemaker's "Ole Ugly" Mauser 98. I call mine "Little Ugly" because, as much as I like the 8x57 loaded to it's full potential, it's still no .458.
Thanks Cowboy
That is 1 of the McSwirls that I've seriously considered getting.
That 8m 200 bullet should do BAD things to critters.
Good luck

Tho I love my lever guns, I always seem to gravitate back to my 9.3x62 for serious stuff! I'm considering a new scope for the old girl!
Dang I love that thing; very, very cool.
How does the high-mounted scope work with the drop on that stock?

Wow. That's nice. What's the story behind that old gal? Love the caliber, btw.
Shoots good! Killed elk, deer, hogs, and nilgai with that rifle/scope arrangement. Started out as 9.3x57. Slow day at the shop, coworker and I made it a 62. Husqvarna 146. Mfg in 1938. I know when I shoot something with it, it dies!
PS i did remove that ridiculous sporting clays pad!!
7 mm Rem Mag; Penrod metalwork, McMillan Legend stock. It would have been a better picture if I could have turned his head, but he was purt well stuck.
My just finished FW 30/06
Very nice Utah and bt. Great looking rifles!
Thanks Cowboy

Yup, 200gr Hot Cors at (I'm guessing, haven't chrony tested it yet) 2650+ punch a DANDY hole through a critter.
