Ran across a great little wood-stocked browning A-Bolt II in .325 WSM at a local shop. Nice Nikon Monarch Glass on it mounted in Leupold rings. Whole rig looks like it rarely (if ever) left the safe and is available for well under $600.

I love a bargain and that's like getting the rifle for $250, but what is it we're supossed to hunt with a .325 WSM?

Maybe I'll make a trip out west for Elk, but my Rem 700 in .300 Wby would probably be as good a choice for that. Don't really hunt dangerous game (yet), but it would seem to be made for that kind of thing.

Its no target rifle and even factory hunting ammo is downright expensive. Its approaching Weatherby prices and available with only a couple factory loads from what I could find.

Does it ever make sense to own a gun 'just because'? I tend to look at them as a tool, so I don't get too caught up in the collecting side of things.

If you're trying to get reasons to buy a new rifle, look no further.

If you're trying to make sense, you may need to Google!

I'll cast a vote for just because.

I am not a Browning fan but the 325WSM is a great round IMO you can hunt deer and elk and not change a thing! The A-bolt will be a light rifle and this means alot when you are packing it all day long on a hunt!

Every gun I bought since my 30'06 has been "just because." And it never hurts to have a backup. This is the first year I actually brought a backup, and sure enough, I dropped my 30'06 on a rock when I bit it on a slick hill. Got to carry my 338 for the next couple days.

I'm not an A-bolt fan but at that price topped with a Monarch somebody else may make your mind up for you if they haven't already. As to what you could hunt with it, I'd say pretty much anything you can buy a tag for.

Just remember when you are in the dog house with the 325 WSM that is

1. A rifle and it will never send you to dog house.

2. If you have ammo and are loaded up you can have a bang every time you pull the trigger.

and finally

3. Rifles never have headaches

Good Luck.

P.S. and the ladies still wounder why real men like guns <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm not really up on the .325 WSM how would that compare with a .300 WM or a .338 WM??

I was under the impression the .325 was not quite as powerful as the 338 win mag? My buddy bought a Browning A-Bolt in .325 WSM and used it on our resident deer here in Nebraska. The recoil on the gun was no where near what I thought it would be, it was very mild. He shot 3 deer this year with a 196 grain Core Lokt at around 2700 fps. The round dropped one deer so quick that he thought he had missed it. The other two dropped almost as quick. I am impressed with the .325 but wished Weatherby or Tikka made the round in there rifles. I might cave in and get a browning myself since the winchester shadows are getting hard to find. I think it would be a awesome elk gun for sure and think it would do fine on bear. I also have a itch for the 338.........decisions, decisions. Esox357.

If I had to choose between the .325 WSM and the .338 Win Mag, I would choose the .338 Win Mag hands down.

My Kimber Montana 325 shoots 200gr TSX at 2950 into 3/4" or occasionally better 3 shot groups at 100yds. I shot a deer last week with it at pretty long range. It shoots flat and hits hard. It's easier to load for than the 338 Win Mag (which I've had near a dozen of), but bullet selection is limited.
I love it but it doesn't have as good of bullet selection here in the states as a 33cal would. But in the Kimber Montana it fits into a slicker package than you will find any 338 Win Mag in.......................DJ
