My gunsmith retired and I'm looking for someone to send my Echols Legend blank to for bedding, ejection port/bolt handle cuts, pad/swivels install. East coast would be preferable.

Where did you have yours done and how much was it?

Did they need to shorten the height of the factory magazine box?

Is it possible to use these swivel studs or is that just a bad idea?

Got one quote for $600 but that's way out of my range.

Feel free to PM me if need be.

Gene Simillion. He's probably a little pricey, but worth it. If it were mine, I'd do it myself. But that's just me... wink

Probably the best option is to just sell me the stock! very best winpoor
I used to hear real good feedback on a Chad, guy Long Rifles Inc... if my poor azz memory serves! A top fitter that does anal precision work is not going to come real cheap.Mr Robert Gradious here in GA gets a ton of great feedback as well ! best WP

From the fire here I'd pick either Redneck or Jim Kobe, not quite east coast but both not far to ship.

I am guessing that is about right, particularly for the 'smiths named above.

Beautiful rifles Bob. I'm glad you finally figured out how to post pictures. Here's my 270 fwt that I fitted into a hunters compact:

That's a classic with a modified bolt handle isn't it? Looks great though....

PTG looks a little bulky and unrefined to me... Post pics when you are done though. Are you having it cerakoted or leaving it as is?

Bottom metal is being worked on. Gun is cerekoted in Midnight blue.

It will look perfect when complete. 2 more weeks of waiting.

I cannot understand WHY D'Arcy does not get the Micky boys to make up a 1000 so folks can get them when they need one! I have emailed and been trying to put my hands on one since the first on I put to shoulder on a pure Legend a rich fellow had built for 15 grand!, Im getting a little old to drag "Carlos" my target in a sporter stock on 3 mile hikes, I have a NM with cloverleaf tang that I would love to have a Legend stock for to hunt bad weather, BUT I will be happy for a non cut, std sporter cloverleaf tang stock, the nice ones like the one BSA spotted on fleabay sold for about what a non inletted Legend was bringing when they were in stock!

If bought new as an uninletted blank, then cut and colored to desired finish the costs seem to approach 1100-1200 bones. Mucho dinero for sure. So the prices posted by OP seem to be about average.

The Legend stock, even with an edge fill is a bit on the heavy side in my opinion. Personally I like the edge fill for mid bores and magnums, and standard fill on the heavier hitters, say in the 375 and 416s.

I must admit that a Legend stock feels and points extremely well, IMO.

I don't see Echols releasing a large number of pre finished stocks anytime soon. Supply and demand keep these stocks desired and the costs are able to stay at the higher end due to this...supply and demand 101.

I am very fortunate to have two rifles sitting in the Legend pattern, neither where bought as a new blank.

Top two in photo...416 Rem Mag and 35 Whelen

Gene just came out with a new price sheet. His work is by no means cheap, but then again you get perfection. Hard to put a price on that. Gene is also a very honest humble man. Worth every penny, and his bedding work, I'm convinced, will make any gun shoot.
