We see the Pre 64 FWT's for sale in 30/06 and 243 fairly regularly and we all know the 270 can be tough to find but what about the 308? I can't recall seeing a 308 FWT for sale in a very long time.

Have one and there is another I've been trying to buy for 4-5 years. Cousins owns it and it was his Mothers. Never had a scope mounted and I doubt if a box of shells have been fired threw it. Sits in the safe and doesn't come out unless I'm there and take it out and wipe it down.

I bought mine almost 40 years ago from a client. It was her fathers and the stock finish was starting to wear. The metal was fine but over time the stock finish deteriorated to a point that it needed to be redone. That was almost 15 years ago and I haven't really used it much. It will cloverleaf 165gr NBT and I have taken some deer with it. I would like to find one that was all original.

I have a mint condition pre-64 Model 70 FWT in 308win sitting in my safe.
Beautiful rifle, I quite possibly could be talked out of it for a mint Sako Forester Deluxe in 243 or 308.

I see them. I actually know where a couple are for pretty good deals, but lets face it, they are 308's in a long action rifle. There were more 308 fwt's and 30-06's made than any other chambering of fwt rifle... If you aren't seeing them, you are looking in the wrong spot. Cheap: 308 fwt
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Awesome shooter, however I seem to remember your rifle having a custom fluted barrel on it.... Are these groups from a factory barrel or the custom barrel?

Another wonderful alternative is Remington 600 or 660 in cal. 308. Very nice carbine built around short stiff target grade Remington action also used on XP-100 guns. It is short action with wonderful short bolt throw perfectly suited to x51mm cartridge case. Old Winchester was designed for x63mm type cartridge case making it less optimal in this instance.

At the end of the day it's still a Remington and just another used rifle. No nostalgia or class in that one.

As for why don't we see these for sale? Obviously, it's because those who own them don't often sell them....
Not a Winchester, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Remington Model 600/660. The 600 is an accurate, fast handling gun that is a pleasure to carry. The original old school, lightweight rifle at 5 1/2 lbs. bare....

Except for that 18.5in barrel and the muzzle blast that went with it, shotgun rib, stylish dog leg bolt and shark fin front sight it was a fine looking rifle.

I love my 600 for all of those reasons, especially the muzzle blast....
