So I am in the market for mid range ($200 ish) scope for a moderalate weight 223 and see that Cabelas has the 3-9x40 Fullfield E1 with the plex reticle on sale for $170. I have a $20 off coupon so can get it shipped to my local store for $150.

I was interested to get some feed back from the 'fire here as the "value" of this deal.

Looks like the plex version of these are discontinued, hence the sale. IIRC, the "street price" on these was in the $250 range when they first came out, so my thinking is that this is a pretty solid deal. Having never owned one however, I am going in blind.

For around $200, is there a better overall value out there in a 3-9x40 that you guys can point me towards? I am looking for quality glass in a relatively trim package with good, non critical, eye-relief.

Seeing as it is going on a 223, I think most scopes at this price point are going to be mechanically tough enough.

I have a couple Burris scopes, one is on my AR15 and I like it a lot. A friend just bought a Redfield which is in your price range and it seems like a decent scope too for the money.

I can't think of anything that can touch it for close to that price. I have an older FFII 6x40 and every time I think of upgrading I take it out, use it and continue to love it. Know a few others who feel the same.
You wont regret the purchase.

I realize I'm too late, but I like the FF-II a lot better. It's $199-$20. Burris makes good stuff for the money and I've always recommended it as my top choice in the $200 range. The E-1 is probably a solid scope, I just like the features of the FF-II better. If you don't care for the E-1 consider swapping for the FF-II.

I got one with the simple duplex type reticle for $139.00 and think it's a real bargain. Natchez had them for that about eight months ago.

I bought an E1 in the 30 mm tube from Cabelas about a year ago for 149.00 and it's a really nice scope. You'll like it.

I have one, I think it's a good scope. My only issue with the plex reticle is the bars don't extend to the edge of the field of view.

Yep I'd take one of these over a VX1 or Pro Staff any day of the week!

If it's anything like my old FF II, you won't regret buying it. I love mine with standard plex.

USA made FF 3-9 ballistic plex on a .223 CZ. ER is a bit short for the heavier calibers, but no issue on a .223. I bought the scope new and never used it much. I think it has found a home on the .223.

As mentioned by others - Burris makes a decent scope for the price. I've owned quite a few, and have only had to do the warranty thingy once. The scope was repaired and came back in proper working order. About 10 years ago Burris had an interesting tid-bit of information on their website.

They claimed that the internal parts design had a number of robust components that was designed to make the scope reliable and sturdy. They also claimed that the lenses were slightly larger then the competition.

Was it true...? I'm not sure, but I have found that they are reliable and will hold zero. The only time I ever adjusted the turrets was when I changed ammo.

It will be good for a .223. But for hunting big game I find the reticle too fine and difficult to pick up in low light.

Hence, my original FFIIs reside on big game rifles and I put my E1 on my AR.
