I have recently been trying to downgrade a little, selling some customs and acquiring some factory rifles. My tastes now lean towards stainless mountain rifles. I've found several and typically sell off the LSS stock and go to a Hunter's Edge. I also typically use a PT&G fluted firing pin with aluminum shroud and a PT&G aluminum ADL triggerguard. And I also typically send off the bolts to Kampfeld for the Ti treatment/fluting and blasting of the aluminum shroud to match the factory stainless finish. Lots of unnecessary $$'s spent, but I've become kinda' anal about it. I also have been a slut for Timney triggers, although lately I've been sending the factory triggers off to 805 for a 2.25 lb pull and have found his work to be excellent. So I'll probably be selling off a few Timneys in the near future.

Now that I've spilled my M.O., here are weights of factory rifles with all the goodies versus my Ti rifles. The SA Ti is a 308 that has a heavier 3.5-10x scope and a heavier Rock barrel installed by GAP. So that comparison is apples to oranges +P.

First the long actions. Top to bottom is the factory Ti 30-06 with a PT&G alum shroud and T/G, a MR 280, and a MR 270. The factory Ti and the 280 have the same CDS VX2 scope. The 270 on bottom wears a VXIII 3.5-10.

The short actions. Top to bottom is the GAP Ti 308 with PT&G alum shroud and T/G (heavier contour barrel and heavier scope), a MR 7mm-08, and a MR 260 (both with VX3 2.5-8's).

Two thoughts come to mind. First, thanks for posting up. Good M.O. All are well done. There ain't a rifle in the bunch that I would object to being my "one and only" rifle till I die. They would all work for anything I'm likely to hunt in the foreseeable future.

Second is the fact that the vagaries of barrel contour/length and scope selection outweigh the old saw about "short actions are lighter". The lightest rifle in the line up is a long action. The heaviest is a short action. Yeah, I know I'll get a load of grief over that comment. But even if we throw out the high and the low, there ain't but a few ounces difference either way. Most folks would be hard pressed to consistently tell the difference with their eyes closed.

Again, thanks for posting...

I think this is right.

Won't get any grief from me...seems the short action thing is rendered moot. I never saw much value to all the hoopla anyway

This one is a Mountain Rifle with just the bolt done. Factory B&C and bottom metal. Leupold 3.5-10.

257,
That's a super collection of rifles!! Really like the ones with the Hunters Edge & red pads. Looks sharp. Never anything wrong with building a "faux Ti' versus the real Ti. I've done a couple faux's but have since sold them. I think I'll hang onto my Ti 7MM-08 though just because it would be tough to find another. Congrats on that collection, you done great:) Here is my really early 1st Gen Ti, its got probably the nicest factory stock I've seen on these which is why I haven't dropped it in a Hunters Edge. Currently its naked waiting for a new scope:)

82.6 ozs = 5 lbs 2.6 ozs, so I should be at 6 lbs or so scoped.

Faux 260. Love the thing, but think I'd rather have a 22" sporter contour in an Edge than a MR in a BC. Or a Faux MR in an Edge over a Ti in an OG BC. Or a pig in a poke...

Does anybody have a weight of a Rem 700 SA and bolt (no bottom metal or trigger)? Just curious on counting ounces.
