Model 99 take down. 373072 is serial number. Want to know year and rough value. It has a Lyman rear site, kinda on the side. Made in Utica. Cant upload pics, says the file to big......300 Savage . It has lots of pitting but still works. Thanks again for all the work

Yep, really need a pic. Not too long ago I paid $140 for a pretty nice 1926 model F in 303 at a small estate sale. That was the deal of the year for me. Condition means every thing. I like pre war rifles, so that puts a premium on it for me, others who like 50's rifles might not even consider it if it's that rough. Some one should come along that can post the pics for you if you can email them. Hang tight and we'll try to get you some better info, Joe.

It has a Lyman rear site, kinda on the side. A climbing Lyman? If so, those things are worth a mint without the rifle. I sent you a pm. Click on the flashy thing toward the top of the screen.

The letter "M" is just an inspectors stamp. In the 60's they made a DL that had an "M" on it and that stood for Monte Carlo stock. If it looks like this one it's an "F". This is the one I got for $140, Joe.

The 99PE and 99DE were also stamped M. They had Monte Carlo stocks also. The M causes a lot of confusion in the 99s. I see DL's advertised as M's frequently. The Savage 110's that had Monte Carlo stocks had an M in their model designations like the 110 MCL I put in another post a few days ago. There were probably others too. David

Sorry it took me so long. Sometimes life gets in the way. Looks like a "G", and a Lyman 57SA sight. The condition appears to lack a lot to be desires. I'll let others take a stab at a value.

It does look like a tang crack, and it is kind of rough around the edges. I really wouldn't want it unless I could get it cheap. I wouldn't go over $400, and probably just pass. But, if it was at the Amish Auction a couple weeks ago it would have gone in the $700 range, maybe a bit more. I don't like to give values. If someone tells me they have something for sale, I ask what they want for it, If I like it I pay up or pass. If they insist on me making an offer I start at $100 and work up. If I ran into some outstanding, high end engraved, worth thousands, I'd tell them it is out of my range and I might be able to guide them to a high end collector. If I bought that and missed a much higher grade rifle because I was a couple hundred short, I'd be mad. That's why "I" would low ball you, Joe.

This one looks so rough. Kinda reminds me of Emeril the chef. If the Fish smells ......go for the lamb. Ask them if they got any marlins 4 sale.

It's a model 99G, lots of character. Tang crack needs to be epoxied and peep sight and rest of gun cleaned, but it's probably a perfectly good range or hunting gun. I've got worse.

What it's "worth" and what it would "sell" for seldom follow parallel lines.....
$350-$400
