I am having my first rifle built and I have a question regarding the bottom metal. This rifle will be on a stainless left handed Remington 700 short action. I cannot seem to find the factory bottom metal for this action. Any links would be appreciated.
I was also looking at the PTG bottom metal. I see it comes in aluminum and stainless steel. I was hoping to make this a lightweight rifle so I was considering the aluminum. Does any have any experience with these? I'm assuming they are up to the task physically, I am wondering how well they would match the stainless action.
Lastly, I suppose I could just go with the stainless PTG bottom metal.
Any thoughts on the bottom metal above or any that I have not considered are appreciated.

If you have to have bottom metal and building a light rig, I'd for sure go the aluminum route. If you are ordering your stock, I'd consider adl hard for a lightweight packing rifle.

PTG in aluminum is a good option - much better than a factory Remington bottom metal. Another option that is really nice is Hawkins Precision in alloy - IMHO nicer than the PTG units. If you want uber tough - go Badger M4 in alloy - a bit spendy but worth it! http://www.hawkinsprecision.com/remington-700-oberndorf-bottom-meta

Thank you both. It looks like a little more research is in order.

If you decide on the aluminum PTG metal (a fine choice), and it doesn't match the stainless closely enough you can just get the bottom metal cerakoted in stainless to match. Then you'd have lightweight and matching.

I've used the PT&G aluminum multiple times with bead blasted stainless actions and barrels. Just have the bottom metal bead blasted and it is good to go. It is quality stuff and has never given me any problems. I like it.

I have the aluminum PT&G M700 short action bottom metal on one of my rifles. I sent it to Karl Feldkamp and he cerakoted it in a color called satin mag that matches the bead blasted stainless of the barreled action really well.

John Ditto. That's the answer there. You'll be pleased.
