There are 769 total delegates up for grabs in the remaining states. So simple math says:
Current standings
Trump 755
Cruz 545

If Trump has 1200, Cruz would have 869. (excluding any go Kasich)

If Trump had 1000, Cruz would lead with 1069. (again no Kasich)

It has a lot to do with how far separated the front candidates are. If it is close, Cruz and the public have every right to let it hash out at the convention, and Cruz would be a favorite to come out on top in that kind of situation, imo. If the candidates are withing 50-100 of each other, anything could happen.

But if one is 250-300 out in the lead, I don't think it would play out very well for 2nd, 3rd, 5th+ ballots to be cast and have the public see 250-300 delegates jumping ship to the opposing candidate.

Makes you rethink what Trump is saying about CO and the rigged system. If someone is that far ahead going into the convention and doesn't get the nomination, it sure looks to be rigged by insiders. Trump is leveraging the electorate against the RNC, just in case something like this scenario tries to play out at the convention. He would have been right, and the public will not approve.

So predictable.

Whom will the GOPe run up the flagpole? Because they sure as hell aren't going to start a love fest w/ Cruz.

It's a ploy to calm down the "pissed off" sector.

With no one at 1237 it becomes more of a game to be played and the best game player wins. Something that will also go a long way to indicate who the better, shrewdest and smartest candidate is.

I think its obvious that Trump campaigned for the 1st ballot and may fall short.

Cruz is campaigning for the 2nd ballot and who knows what will happen.

After that, I bet Rubio makes a come back.

He has big hands.

That will depend on the rules set up before the convention gets to the voting. It's being said by many, including Ryan, that it should be limited to those candidates running. That could include the whole field but will most likely include only the last men standing. That would be my preference.

I see a Rubio/Kasich team coming down the pike....
IMO they will do whatever to get rid of both Cruz & Trump as swiftly as possible.

Current projections are that Trump will have a MAXIMUM of 1097 delegates on first ballot. That's the best he can do. It may be that this committee member threw this statement out there to make the process seem tilted toward Trump when he knows it's not likely to happen. Interesting article here about how Cruz wins the nomination and why:

If Trump has 1100, Cruz would be at or close to 969 delegates.

I believe the spokesperson is correct in his prediction/estimate.

That is closer than I would expect it to be though, 131. In the neighborhood of 100 delegates difference between the two, is about where one can start legitimately having an on the floor fight over delegates at the convention without it looking like outright theft.

All hype, talk, & speculation aside; The G.O.P. has some serious house cleaning & rearranging to do so as to "Get their [bleep] together."
The tail's been wagging the dog all over the place when the National & State level GOP parties start ignoring the customers / clients of theirs known as VOTERS.

Trump will hire 50 employees. One for each state. They will be dressed in suits and ties and carrying a professionally bound notebook with the names, addresses and phone number of every delegate that's bound to vote for Trump on the first round.

They will go around to each delegate group and say, "Just making sure everybody is here". Then open the book, turn to the name of the person, show it to the them, ask, "Is this you?"

Nothing wrong with checking attendance.

Rubio seems to back Cruz - The Hill: “Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said he wants the Republican nominee to be a conservative — and Ted Cruz is the only candidate who qualifies. Rubio said in an interview with Mark Levin on ‘Levin TV’ Tuesday that of the candidates in the GOP race, the ‘only one that fits that criteria is Ted Cruz.’ He qualified that comment by adding, ‘at this moment, of the candidates that are still actively campaigning.’ …Rubio, who ended his presidential bid earlier this year after losing his home state of Florida, has not yet endorsed a candidate for president. He has previously said Cruz is the only conservative left in the presidential race.”

Plug Marco into the VP slot and there would be a lock on the Latino and real conservative voters. Women and crossovers like Marco, too. Look for it.

You do realize that Donald Trump wants to grant legal status to every non-criminal illegal alien in the US, right? They have to leave, but then they get to return with work permit, state and federal benefits, driver's licenses, etc, etc.

Good luck with that line of attack. His main appeal is that he intends to enforce our immigration laws, and make them more restrictive, not less.

It's been what he's said since day 1.

http://www.redstate.com/diary/south...plan-includes-amnesty-after-deportation/
Quote
Eric Trump’s description of his father’s immigration plan:

“The point isn’t just deporting them, it’s deporting them and letting them back in legally. He’s been so clear about that and I know the liberal media wants to misconstrue it, but its deporting them and letting them back legally.”

Quote
Donald’s previous comments:

“I would get people out and then have an expedited way of getting them back into the country so they can be legal…. A lot of these people are helping us … and sometimes it’s jobs a citizen of the United States doesn’t want to do. I want to move ’em out, and we’re going to move ’em back in and let them be legal.”

You guys don't even know what it is you're in favor of. Should call you guys the Gang of Trump, just a new version of the Gang of Eight.

Calhoun, we understand what he means. Everyone without a pro-establishment agenda does, too.
