Gentlemen I've stumbled upon a Winchester 52b sporter used in excellent condition at a local gun shop. I can get it for 899.00.
What do ya'll think? I have a lot of experience with high end rimfires but the 52 had always eluded me and I don't know much about them.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I've had one for several years and it is a fine rifle. The fit and finish is excellent and the accuracy is quite good.

I have one and wish that I'd bought several when J&G were selling off the Utah Centennials for around $500.

If you look a little you may be able to find one nib for $900-$1100. Very nice rifles. I have the Winchester version.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been mulling it over for awhile and I just can't bring myself to buy it. It's a fine rifle but the wood istove spectacular and honestly I can buy better handling rifles for just a little more cash.
If anyone else is interested it can be found at

Excellent rifles. I have 2, a standard Winchester and the Utah version. Both amazing shooters. Price seems a little on the high side but will probably only appreciate in value regardless.

$900 is too much, in my opinion. I had one of the Winchester versions and it was a fine shooting rifle once the trigger was adjusted. I sold it and kept my Anschutz M54 sporter.

I have owned several original 52B Sporters over the years, I used to like the slim barrel and the svelte appearance. A couple of years I bought a custom Sporter made from a Pre A that had a standard weight barrel. The barrel had been shortened to 22" from the breech end, for me this balances much better thanks to the added weight. I have never owned a repro 52B Sporter wither the Winchester or Browning version. They're both fine rifles and with prices of original 52B Sporters 3x-4x what the repro's cost they are an excellent value. An added advantage of the repro rifle is that they have the Micro-Motion trigger of the later C rifles, a far better trigger than the original B.
