I don't normally view this board but I am looking at buying a used Rem 513T. It has peep sites and and heavy barrel, I am told it shoots good(??) What can I expect from this 22? Over all it is in good condition but I notice the rear of the bolt is a different color like case hardening. Is this normal or something to shy away from. #300.00 Canadian and I might be able to dicker a little from there. Smokey

Dear Smokey;
I have never owned a 513T, but have considered buying
one in the past few months. Others have told me they
are very accurate and shoot better than some of the
new rimfires on the market now. There is an ad in the
GUNLIST from a gentleman in Nevada who has several
513Ts for sale. I would like to own one as a shooter
and mount a good scope on it for squirrel hunting.
Im not sure what 300 in Canadian comes out to in
US currency but nothing ventured nothing gained.
Good luck!

I have one and love it.

I think the price you mention is very good. Mine is very accurate, but I will have it drilled and tapped and scope it,due to my eyes not allowing the issued peep to work for me anymore.

Great rifle, especially for the price you mention...............

Smoky

The 513T was Remington's "midprice" target rifle, a sort of understudy to the very expensive model 37. It had an excellent reputation for accuracy and was in big use by high school and even college rifle teams and later, by the US Army as a training rifle. $300 canadian is almost a steal, if the bore is excellent, grab it.

To make a handier hunting rifle out of it the barrel can be cut to 20" or 22" and a lot of wood taken off the stock, this will take 1 to 1.5 pounds off it. The only disadvantage is that many of them were not set up with drilling & tapping or a grooved receiver for scope mounts, but the factory peep sights are excellent and give almost equal accuracy as a low power scope.

miki

Well I took your advise and picked up the rifle. I won't be able to shoot it until after the new year. It is at my brothers place, 800 miles away. I guess if I can wait until Christmas I can wait to get the gun. Thanks for your help. Smokey
