I don't usually trap or snare unless I have a problem at the ranch here.

Had taken out the dominant pair around HQ here that had been causing me grief. I knew another pair would move in. They did, and this pair was way worse.

Calling didn't produce them. Most times I can eventually get them by calling. Especially a smart alpha male. Not so this time.

So I noticed that remnants of a big hog I'd killed had been messed with periodically, and set some snares. It took awhile, but this morning I was rewarded by finding the male in one of two snares I set for them. smile

Life is good today!

Huge male for this area.

Yeah, he went over the top of the fence. Didn't do his health much good, though.

No, he was dead when I got to him in the morning. Hadn't been there long, and didn't stay alive long after he was snared.

I reckon being upside down with a snare around his flanks wasn't making it easy to breath.

Most coyotes I have snared and jump the fence die soon thereafter.

Good going --that's a beautiful sight.

Wish I'd have got into snaring years ago - I was clueless to their effectiveness.

Now you've got to hang the female.

Congrats!
I killed a yearling coyote 25 years ago. It had one of my hens in it's mouth.

I am still trying to get my second coyote.

Had it smaller than when I caught him, but even though I had cut a slide in the net fence, they would still try and go under, and I would find the snare down...

Got one now that actually dug out a good bit more at the slide.

I'll have a couple of #3 Montana's waiting for him once he gets inside next time. wink
