I have a chance to get a Leupold rangefinder at a great discount and wondering what opinions are from those who have experience with them?
I know there are better choices out there, but the one I have currently isn't great and I think it may be time for an upgrade. To keep cost manageable I'm thinking about a Leupold RX-1200i with DNA or RX-1200i TBR/W with DNA.
I'd be using it in the field and need accurate readings on game out to 500 yds or so.
Any experience w/ either of these would be helpful!
Thanks,
efw

I have the 1000i TBR DNA and it's done for me what you state you need one to do.

Cabelas had the RX-1200i TBR with DNA on sale for $279 a few weeks ago. I have an older Leica bought used that may have been a good unit new, but the Leupold is much better.
I've only played around with it a few times, but it seems to work very well out to 400-500 yards. It may take a few tries and everything has to be just right past 500. I've been able to get readings out as far as 700, but not always.
I've not tried using the bullet drop feature. In fact would have rather not had that feature, but the version without it was not on sale.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

Excellent thanks for that feedback gentlemen!
How do the TBR/Mil readings translate to come-ups in MOA?
Has anyone used that feature at all?

I bought an RX-1000/TBR a couple of years ago. Not 100% reliable and got erratic or no readings in extreme cold.
The fifteen year-old Nikon that I gave away was a more reliable instrument. In defense of the Leupold, it's considerably smaller than the Nikon, for what that's worth.

I shopped the same sale and bought the same rangefinder. I haven't had enough time in the field to give it a full test--and it hasn't seen below zero weather yet. Still, all I wanted was a good number inside of 500 yards and it seems capable of doing that. I also was replacing a Nikon that was at least 12 years old. It was clunky, but reliable as sin. It will go into the gear bag as a backup.
One more note, the most important thing to me is getting a quick reading under a wide range of conditions... and not fussing around. I'm not going to sweat +/- a few yards in terms of accuracy, not shooting a rig that will toss a bullet accurately at a quarter mile. Just my perspective.

I have owned most of the others including the 3 "Alpha" rangefinders.
Sold all of them.
My RX1000 TBR DNA and it has done everything I have asked it to do. I have loaned to pals several times and no-one has had anything negative to say. Most who have used it have asked for it a second or third time.
I'd buy another should I have a need.

The Leupolds I have used, including the RX1200, struggled to get past 500, and even that was a gamble depending on the scenario.
The Sig Kilo and the Bushnell 1m are both much better units.
