My brother just gave me a brand new pair of 8x30 Steiners. I have a 6x30 pair of Steiners that I have used for years.

Which pair should I take on my Sept Buffalo hunt in Zim?

Not crazy about Steiner binoculars. I use a 10X Zeiss for plains game & a 6X Minox for close viewing. I have the older Minox so I adjust for 100 yards so I never have to fiddle with adjustments. I would take both.

Rather than a pair, I'd probably just take one. smile

And it'd be the 6x30.

My PH recommended I take the 8x30, so that is what I will takeing. Both models are fixed focused so I won't be fiddling with focus.

Thanks for your advice though.

On a deer hunt a few years ago, my hunting partner had a very expensive pair of Swarks. While viewing a herd of deer early one morning in low light, I compared the two binocs and the 6x30 was just as clear and good at light gathering as the Swarks, even though the Swarks were about 3 times more heavy and cost thousands of dollars more, but to each his own.

If your PH recommends the 8x30's then it makes your choice easier.

I have some 7x30 Steiner's and am quite happy with them, don't know why more people don't use individual focus binoculars. Also nice that they only weigh 18 oz, great for the mountains in particular.
