I'd just start with an open forum format. Let folks post pictures of whatever they have to get it going. After a while it could shift to a specific model but starting with a relatively exotic variety of the 99 is going to discourage guys who don't have large collections. Also, as said before, it doesn't have to be exclusive to the 99 as Savage made a large variety of firearms. I hope everything isn't getting too complicated before it starts and I vote we kick off the photo thread ASAP!

Yes. I don't think this one was made by him. It's labeled 270-300 Savage. My step daughter with it. The photo was taken a few years ago to show to her guy friends so they'd think she was a blacktail slayer, but the deer is one of mine. grin She and her friends got a few laughs out of that photo.

No reason we can't have multiple threads going at the same time. For instance 99T's and RT's or Pre war R's and RS's and so on. I'd like to keep it some what organized for future reference when searching. A few pictures of each individual rifle with a brief description and partial S/N if you want. Anything unique about that particular rifle should be included. We can do gray rats, bubba 99's etc. Of course you can always post any pictures any time you want wherever you want it is a forum. Tom

I could never afford the pristine originals, so I've never been afraid of tinkering on 99's to my heart's delight!

One of my favorites, mainly because of the way it came to me. LGS fella had an old guy wanting to get rid of some guns. There were 2 on the list that were 99's. They were only listed as 99 in 300 and 99 in 358....well, we all know where they stayed.

In the gun pictured, a 99EG in 358 Win, not pristine, but no cracks, and blueing was decent. Still had original sights. Circa 1957.

Had a note in the butt that the old guy bought the gun in MN for $350. Dated in 1983. I made another note for when I purchased it and with price. My favorite "find" actually found me...... cool

Still waiting to draw blood. Hopefully this year. Set with a Leupold
M8 6x36 on it. Will be using the silvertip ammo.
