I'm sure that Ruger's new recoil pad is at least a cosmetic improvement over that old, hard, black pad, BUT....... unless they equip those 7mm Mag., 338, and 300 versions with a thicker pad than the one illustrated, they will not be doing all they can do to minimize the effects of recoil in that department.

I'm not much on new cartridge introductions, but the "African" version in 375 Ruger interests me very much, and I intend to order one ASAP. If it comes with that ridiculous thin, black pad as per the photos, I intend to take it to the range, shoot it in a Caldwell Lead Sled, test it's function, etc. If it proves to be worth keeping, I'll take it in and have a 1" red Pachmayr Decelerator installed as the first order of business.......

um...no 270 win in the standard model??? WTF, I like the looks of the red pad, however its not very thick which is a good thing, that way I can change it out with a sims limbsaver and get a realistic LOP instead of the stubby 13.5".

also who the hell decided to call it the hawkeye, that is a dumbass name, I am from texas and utah, no one around both places knows about hawkeyes, hopefully they will not stamp hawkeye on the side of the reciever in big letters!!!

I am curious about the new trigger system they are going to offer on the "Hawkeye"- I like the looks of the stock, too.

I bet the 257 Win is a typo and should be 270.

I'd like to see the Alaskan in stainless and I'm not sure about the Hogue?

Anyone seen the balistics for the 375 Ruger yet?

I noticed that too and was wondering what the 257 Win was. 257 Roberts before and 30-06 after, I'd say you were right.

The stock certainly looks redesigned, much lighter/slimmer looking. The pistol grip looks more closed, too. None of the standards have sights, which is too bad, especially the 338.

I wonder if the 375 will be offered in the RSM or will only be offered in the Hawkeye African. I personally think the RSM's are a little too heavy for a 375 H&H class rifle, like the 375 Ruger, but it would be nice to get that integral quarter rib and banded front sight with the English Walnut.

Looks like they will have the left handed version by mid next year for all the wrong handed shooters.

If the quality of rifle is good, I think Ruger will have a winner on their hands here. The suggested retail seems to be right where most folks would buy it. Let's hope they pull a Winchester on us and sacrafice quality for price.

Too bad Ruger dropped the 6mm Remington chambering for the "Hawkeye". I just bought one in the MKII and was pleasantly surprised to see it came in a short-action. Why not the Roberts then?

I see they tightened the twist to 1/9 on the .223 Rem.

Thanks for the link!!
Nice looking rifles.
I'd bet the 257 Win is a typo also; should be 270 Win.

I noticed that right off as well. I've been dilly-dallying on getting a .223, maybe it was good to wait.

No more 6.5x55. Shame.

Still, I'm thinking one of these in 30-06 might make a darned nice companion to a Winchester in... 30-06.

I see the .338 Federal and the .358 Winchester are listed for the Hawkeye All-Weather model.

I wish they would chamber the 7X57 again.
Hey BFaucett, maybe they will do one sometime in the 9.3X62! That would be nice, eh?

Yeah, I'd like to see the 7x57 (and the 6.5x55) listed again. I doubt if Ruger will ever chamber for the 9.3x62 but they might. Maybe in a special limited edition run or something. I'm not going to hold by breath waiting for it, however.

But, the new .375 Ruger is very similar to the 9.3x62 and the 9.3x64. (Yeah the .375 Ruger has a little more velocity and bullet weight than the 9.3x62.) I predict that the .375 Ruger will be the American cartridge that fills the 9.3x62 / 9.3x64 niche. Meaning, a .36/.37 caliber that fits into a standard length action and has basically .375 H&H power. Plus the .375 Ruger will be DG legal in those African countries that have a .375 caliber minimum for dangerous game.

I've got my eye on the new Hawkeye in .358 Winchester. I don't really need one as I have both a .35 Whelen (Rem CDL) and a 9.3x62 (CZ 550). But, I've always thought the .358 Win was a neat little catridge. Ballistically it's very close to the old 9x57 Mauser. Plus, I don't have any foul weather rifles as all of my curent rifles have walnut stocks. A stainless/syn stock Hawkeye in .358 Win might be just the thing for a foul weather rifle. But, the new .338 Federal appeals to me too. Decisions, decisions!!!...

340boy,

I'm curious about the new trigger also. I have two 77 mark II standards (280 rem and 338 win mag). The first thing that I do is put a timney trigger in them. It would be nice if the trigger let off crisp and clean with a pull that would allow you to use just one finger .

The recoil pad doesn't bother me...my 338 win mag is not that bad even though the black pad is not as good as the ones on some of my Remington 700s.

I'm thinking about getting one just to see how good it is .

I see they are going to have a left handed .375 next summer. Is that the only one?

What about the other calibers. Are they going to make any other left handed rifles available?

Well...crap. There goes the need for a custom gun. Looks like Ruger made all the right moves, new trigger, matte stainless etc.

Looks like the blue/wood version will be available in LH in long action calibers.

I really like the looks of the all-weather model. The matte stainless looks pretty good.
