Thank you! both birds were taken saturday morning and had hens with them. spot and stalk was working the best, calling and decoys didn't work at all. it was kind of odd this year. I have one more tag that starts May 1. mine was an eastern, my friends was a Merriams.

Nice bird Ryan. Did u get him in the hills?
Are u positive that's an eastern? A cross with merriams maybe? The edge of the fan looks lighter than an eastern but darker than a merriams. Either way, cool looking bird.
After they boy passes hunters safety this summer/fall I'd like to take them to SD for a turkey hunt.

pretty sure, it's a lot darker in real life. could be a cross I guess too.
yes I got him in the hills on the national forest not far from my house.
anyone ever done a fan mount? I'm thinking I might like to try it with this one.

Either way, I like that bird!
I've done a few with the kits you can buy at Gander or Fleet Farm. If you have the means to make a wood plaque you can do it yourself and probably do a nicer job.
You'll just need some borax to put on the meat of the fan and the beard. Spread it out on a cardboard box and pin the tail feathers to the cardboard. Trim the "meat" from the fan as close as you can to the feathers but not too close so they fall apart. Spread the borax on the "meat" and let it sit for about a week and check it. It may take a few weeks to get hardened up. Then put it on a plaque or board of your liking.

Me and Miss Kennedy are going turkey hunting next week. We're both getting pretty excited about it. She's finally big enough that we had to go to Gander and get woman's hunting clothes for her. It was actually hard to find some that didn't have a pile of bright pink. I don't want a bunch to confuse over anxious hunters in the woods.
We came close to getting her one last season but the big strutting tom hung up at 60 yards. She was only comfortable at 1/2 that distance.

Going nuts up here, nothing to hunt & walleye fishing is closed till the 3rd weekend in May, for spawning !
Both wheelers serviced, 3 boats & 5 outboards ready to go.
Guess, I can service & store the snow machines for the season !

Actually, 4 boats if you count the one that's at my brothers place. He blew the top end of our 60 merc, by forgetting to put 2 stroke oil in the fuel. Boats been at his place for 2 years. Still not fixed. he keeps buying "schit" motors. Shame, as it was an excellent fishing boat. 17' springbok with forward & rear casting decks. Coupla bad pics below, but you can kind of get the idea.

I'm thinking I need a new boat. it's just the right size for the kids since they are still small, but we'll outgrow it quick.

Got back from chasing (literally) turkeys yesterday. We went 1-3 with some really crazy weather, hard rain mostly. The literal chasing came with this old fat man running through the woods to intercept a Tom. Not a pretty sight. Almost coughed up a lung. And almost swallowed my mouth call...all for naught.
We ate like men. Early on it was decided that we would eat only meat and pickled asparagus. Perch and pickled asparagus, Backstraps and pickled asparagus, more perch and pickled asparagus...well you can imagine what it smelled like at the urinal. Libations were plentiful. Good 3 days.

Nice pics of summer eyes. Seeing the pictures is nice, since the weather down here has been crappy.
Sounds like turkey hunting was good times. Never have had pickled asparagus intrigued...
