Any suggestions? Just bought a nice Leica 16-48x 62 straight bodied spotter and now need a good field tripod to match it.
Thanks in advance...

While not the lightest, this tripod has served me well in the mountains chasing sheep, as well as in the fields smacking steel. It's a bit heavier, but also a lot sturdier than the Sprint Pro, which makes a big difference with a heavy optic, or when the wind is blowing. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1014333-REG/slik_613_337_pro_340dx_tripod_legs.html

I woûld prefer it to be a bit heavier but sturdier, rather than save a little weight and have it shake like a chihuahua while I'm trying to spot a goat a mile away. Thanks for the link!

dryfly, I really prefer a pan head to a ball head tripod. Like I said on the other thread, unless you're going carbon fiber, this is about as good as a semi-lightweight tripod gets: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/507998-REG/Slik_611_845_Sprint_Pro_EZ_Tripod.htmlAdd an Oben Tripod Hammock for increased stability:

Almost every tripod has a hook on the bottom of the main stem for hanging weight to stabilize the tripod. I can see bent legs in the future of anyone using the hammock for very long.
And, more importantly, it does not dampen stem movements, the kinds that matter.
It is the answer to the question best not asked.

The hook works great for hanging any number of things in...

Maybe I should start another thread with this question but it's related to the OP's post so I'll throw it out here and hope a couple of you experienced guys can chime in.
I too, am looking for an affordable, lightweight, and compact spotter, for glassing with binos, for an elk hunt next month. I am interested in the one Brad referenced, the Slik Sprint Pro EZ. I notice it, and many similar models, have a maximum height of around 64", give or take an inch. I am 5'8" tall and wonder, is a tripod with that height adequately tall that I could comfortably use it standing up, maybe for extended periods of time, if need be? I would expect to mainly use it sitting down but would guess there might be an occasional need to use it standing, due to topography, conditions, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
