Long time no post but I still lurk in the background.
My son in the Army has gotten a position to teach ROTC in Bozeman at the college. He's having a hard time finding housing for himself, his wife, newborn baby and two dogs.
Does anyone that lives in that area or close have any suggestions I might be able to pass on to him?

KA-CHING!

Good luck with that! I would make the university supply housing. There aint none in Bozeman. "Affordable" housing in Boz is 8 ski bums in a 3 bedroom condo for $2500/ mo.

Good to hear from ya Elf. Can't help in your son's housing but the best for them. Post some pics, you always had interesting pics with a tale or two.

Hi SAcharlie!
I haven't posted photos in a long while as the only way to access the Internet at my cabin is by my mobile phone. But for you I'll see what I can do. smile

When is his move? Bozeman is college town, so after school lets up for the summer might be easier to find something. But like most places, rental's are in tight supply because of growth and lack of building for the last 7-8 years.

In Army fashion he of course has to be there by the end of the month. Life has been a bit hectic for him the last two months as my grand child decided to arrive two and a half months early so a lot of things got put on hold until she was out of the woods.

Belgrade is quite a bit cheaper and 8 miles away.

It is not Bozeman, however.

Annie, I was just wondering about you the other day. Glad to see you seem to be doing well. I'm no help regarding Bozeman however.

I haven't been there for a while, but Livingston is 15 miles or so away, you could try there.

I think he looked there, he just spent 4 days house hunting last week. He's not against being outside of Bozeman 10-20 miles.

He may have to go farther than that to find 'afford' housing. Some folks commute in from points further to the west - like Three Forks. But I wouldn't go east over the pass to Livingson because the Interstate west out of the Bozone is a much nicer road to drive daily in the winter than the Interstate east of Bozangles.

If he can afford it, buy one of the new condos that are going up almost daily. Then when he moves on, or moves into a single family house locally, he can always rent the condo to college kids.

Pursuit may be, it seems to me, perfect without possession.

Livingston is 26 miles east, over a mountain pass that can get nasty in the winter, even though the highway is Interstate 90.

He should look west of town in the valley, even 30 miles away in Three Forks. It's a much easier commute than over the mountains to Livingston, since it's also on I-90, but the snow is usually very light (or non-existent) by the time you get a few miles out of Bozeman.

Three forks may be your best bet. You couldnt pay me to live in Belgrade nestled between the airport, busy train tracks that divide the town literally in half, and the noisy interstate in your back yard. It became Bozemans bedroom community in the 90's when Boz property values zoomed to the moon. Seriously though good luck. I hope your boy finds a spot.
