It's a glorified varmint round that routinely gets promoted as a viable big game/man stopper.

Cartridges are neither overrated or underrated.
What makes them appear so are idiots pontificating that which they do not know.

I would have to say anything with the word magnum behind it.

I would have to say anything with the word magnum behind it. 222 Remington Magnum is a fine example of that. I forgot about that ONE useless cartridge.

Are you implying that the .17 Hornady Rimfire Magnum isn't a 600-yard mule deer cartridge?

JB, it very well could be after about 6-7 beers out at Harry's!
Thank God they didn't bestow magnum on the 22-250....

Magnum or standard.... I love them both.
The 280 Remington is overbore.

Bob, I was thinking over-rated as in mind of the shooter.
But like you say, in reality they are all good. (within reason)
I probably wouldn't take a 25-20 out on a 'serious' deer hunt.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Sam,
One night long ago I shot some very good pool at Harry's while drinking 6-7 beers--or at least good enough to not have to pay for all but the first beer. So would probably have plenty of confidence with a .17 HMR as well!
The .22-250 is a magnum without knowing it, as is the .220 Swift:-)

The .243 and it's over-rated flat shooting ability....

Hey, my father shot his first deer with a .25-20! It was only a forkhorn mule deer, but it was indeed a serious hunt.
