Greetings men
We didn't draw in Colorado and are scrambling to figure out something for an elk hunt this fall. I don't feel like learning a new area in Colorado, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Thinking of buying leftovers in Montana. I've used the search tool this morning and have need for some feedback. Thoughts welcome on:
Being from SD, we like to shoot birds. Is there anyplace that comes to mind where a guy could hunt birds and elk in the same general vicinity?
Based on how your season is set up, I suspect that many places get hammered the first week and then pressure drops off considerably. Am I right on that? Should one look toward the second or third weeks instead?

Forget about birds and use your time trying to fill the elk tags. Seriously. I haven't been on too many elk hunts where I've said, "dang I wish I didn't have so much time on my hands!"
Pressure is high the first week. You can use it to your advantage or come later, whichever you prefer.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

Of course, the later you wait, the odds increase of getting snowed out of particular spots.

Avoid SW MT. Birds are all private and bulls are all piles of wolf schitt.

Found a place in SW Montana. Sent a deposit and bought a tag. See you all there!
