No, doesn't work that way. It stays on, and there is a 72 hour delay and a flag raised at the federal level every time they try to buy a gun.

Maybe, maybe not.

Have you read the final draft of this proposed Bill and are confident in it's content, or are you just stating Opinion as Fact.

Liar.

We are happy to meet with Donald Trump. The NRA’s position on this issue has not changed. The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing. If an investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale, and arrest the terrorist. At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed. That has been the position of Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tex.) and a majority of the U.S. Senate. Sadly, President Obama and his allies would prefer to play politics with this issue.

So tell me, would you be calling someone liar to their face over something I can't even tell where you get the lie thing in the first place from? Do you need to take some meds or should we have someone check on you? Maybe some deep breaths would help and a nap.

I find it terrifying that you would say so. Canada is looking more like a real option all the time. eek

After 15 years of the secret FISA courts, I say no to even a 72 hour wait.

After all, would it be legal to suspend the 4th amendment on illegal searches for 72 hours? Suspend the right to free speech for 72 hours? Suspend the right to be free from cruel and unusual torture for 72 hours?

The Bill of Rights is the Bill of Rights. Prosecute a person, or leave them alone.

Update: Is this what McConnell has in mind? The GOP was floating its own alternative to the Democratic proposal back in December.

Under Republican legislation sponsored by Senator John Cornyn, the federal government may delay the sale of a firearm to someone on the watch list for up to 72 hours. During that time, if the government can show a judge there’s “probable cause”–the same legal standard used to obtain a search warrant–that the individual is plotting terrorism, then the gun sale is denied outright. The measure received 55 votes in the Senate. It it secured the backing of staunch conservatives like Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Marco Rubio as well as moderate Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski and moderate Democrats Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly. The only Republican to oppose it was Mark Kirk.

Note that this legislation would have stopped ZERO attacks in the US. Not one mass murder has been committed by somebody who was on the terror watch list at the time.

Bullchit I'm not ok with any wait or any type of Gun Control. 72 hour wait, big deal it would have just delayed the shooter for two days and then he would have done the same thing, maybe at Disney World and a bunch of kids as the victims. You can't stop a lone gunman regardless of what you do. You have to be armed and kill him or her before they do as much damage as in the night club.

Wouldn't have delayed the shooter, he wasn't on any lists.

Good way to get a start to a 72 hour wait for all gun purchases, I suppose, if a guy had been in favor of that for 20 years or so. Automatically creates a 72 hour wait for 1 million Americans.

Maybe we can make them get tattoos on their arms so we can identify them when they try to buy those items.

If there really is reasonable due process, I'm good with this.

Anyone have a link to the actual proposed law?

One and only one gun law, it is called the Second Amendment. It just needs to be clarified to mean no restrictions on any law abiding US citizen including open or concealed carry everywhere in this country. All laws restricting this right would be immediate null and void and anyone attempting to enforce and firearms restrictions would be guilty of a federal felony.

That would also nullify all the state laws that allow CCW holders to purchase firearms without a further BG check.

Islam is a terrorist organization.
