I am considering buying a sako M85 in a .338 Federal. I would like some advice from anyone who is familiar with either the rifle or caliber?

The cartridge is so new noone will have much experience with it but it should be so similar to the 338-06 which has a fantastic reputation. I would jump on it.

I have one coming too. It's a rebore of a Ruger #1 B in .243.

There also is a good chance Ruger will make one next year in #1A -- see the single shot site for more details.

This new Federal round might just catch on if enough companies make rifles for it. The WBY experinment with the .338-06 was short lived and raiser thin. The caliber unfortunately does not exist as a factory round any more. Not quite a wildcat either anymore, does that make it a house cat?

I don't have any experience with the 338 federal but if it's anything like the 338-06 you will love it. I know I do.
