Went up NW of Stanley with a buddy this weekend for some fly fishing. Restricted waters (tributaries of the Middle Fork of the Salmon) but we were hoping for some Brooks and Cuts (you could only keep Brook and Whitefish). True to my luck what we were pursuing didn't show. Saw a single, that's ONE, fish in the water. No jumps, rising, etc. maybe too early for them to be that far up yet? Also true to form, other wildlife that was out of season was abundant! Figures.... lots of muleys (one buck was already sporting a decent 4x4) one yearling whitetail who was looking for mom, I think. Pronghorns, elk (two Bulls and several cows), coyotes, tons of sandhill cranes and more ground squirrels than you could shoot. The flowers were out in force...beautiful and everything was very green. Oh, and the wolves woke me up at 4:00 am Saturday! Probably about a mile or less away. Never actually saw any. Despite no fish the weather was nice and it was fun to get out for awhile and away from work...always a good thing! Some Desert Paintbrush This hillside was covered in paintbrush, penstemon and some yellow flowers.

Clouds rolling in last night. Was getting pretty windy Sat afternoon so fishing would have been tough, anyway. In Stanley (which was hopping during the tourist season). That's Hwy 21 going NW. Killer motorcycle road all the way to Idaho City! A little south of Stanley.

Checked out a little stream in this meadow/valley. Galena Summit looking out over the headwaters of the River of No Return/Lost River/Mighty Salmon. You could jump over it down there!

Dagger Falls on Boundary Creek right above where it enters the Middle Fork. Looks like a great kayak run but stay River left!!! (And there's a big log about three feet over the river where it narrows into a fast falls/channel just downstream!

She said it was the worst landing she's ever had, the lady next to her was screaming. I guess it was knocking out car windshields and what not. Ben, Musta been out in Bismarck. They got hail from golf ball to grapefruit size. I can't imagine being in a plane when that chit was coming down!

Yes it is, but we prefer left at Lowman then along the South fork Payette Garden Valley HWY to 55, then south along the main Payette River. Dagger Falls,

Old schoolhouse a few miles up the road A slightly bumpy day on the river. For scale, the bow of the front barge is 350 ft away. Breeze says "Why you wake me up?" Thanks folks for keeping this alive, Geno

Pelicans! Here? Stock pond, sage brush for miles. Took these day before yesterday. Please excuse the blurry pictures, the wind was about 30 MPH, it was just beginning to rain hard, so I was leaning back in the P/U seat attempting to stay dry, and hold the camera still. Birds close to the far shore, and some black cows on the bank.

That's Eriogonum spp. Probably Eriogonum umbellatum. I mean Buckwheat, probably Sulfur-flower Buckwheat, or some local type. College paid off after all - says the guy working graveyard shift at the Mill! LOL This hillside was covered in paintbrush, penstemon and some yellow flowers.

Sam, seems your locality didn't get the word spring ended a few days ago, the weather can settle down now.
We had winds and rain all day today too, nothin' heavy in the way of the wet stuff and the winds were just "regular", gust to the mid 20's.
Hope it straightens out soon for you farming folks so you know what's up for the rest of the season. (like that'll ever happen, right?)
