My son and I watched a big (for around Llano, TX) eight point several times last year, but passed because he was always on the wrong side of the fence. Son passed on going with me opening morning to go to the Aggie/Sooner game and I killed this 10pt. I rubbed it in pretty hard, especially as my Aggies lost. The following weekend, I could not get him out of the stand, he wanted to shoot his first buck bad. We didn't see anything until Sunday morning and were about to leave when this small 8 pt came out and son finally got his first buck. Bang flop with his 257 Roberts M70 FWT@ 80 yrds. He's twelve and been hunting with me for four years, so he was super excited! Dad was too! The most I've been excited about a kill in awhile. He even talked me into mounting it, to put into his room. I can't wait to see him when he gets a big one.
As soon as I figure out how to reduce the file size of the pics, I will post.

Congrats on a great pair of deer. Sounds like he had a great time and mountin' that first one will let him remember the experience with Dad for a long time...

It's a lot more fun to see them shoot one than shoot one yourself. Congrats

Good job to son and dad. In a few years the lad will be able to hold up the correct finger for a Campfire salute....grin
Nice going!

Nice buck but don't be surprised when he ask you to take it down because it's looking at him <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> . At least thats what my 11 yr old boy told me. Was his last deer hunt too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
