if you could only keep one, illegal to even take them out of the water. my grandfather caught one on a hand line back in the 50s that was over 600#.

I caught one back in the late 70's that went 300 lbs. Odd though, it looked like that but it wasn't a goliath grouper it was a jewfish.

There is a much speculation that the whale in Jonah and the Whale from the bible scriptures was actually a Goliath Grouper or other large grouper.

My family is from Key West and back when I was young my uncles would fish for Jewfish. I remember one that was as big as VW Beetle that they had to drag up on the boat ramp and cut it up there. I miss Jewfish sandwiches.

Jeremy Wade was fishing for sharks in a Florida river, on his show River Monsters. He got a big bite at night, fought it a while, and then pulled up about a 200# Goliath Grouper. Wasn't what he wanted, but was actually kind of happy to pull it in. He let it go after filming it.

When God said "he prepared a fish" to swallow Jonah, I wonder if he created a one-off species for just this special occasion, or simply "prepared" a common species (whale?) large enough to physically "hold" Jonah in its belly without him suffering from digestion or lack of oxygen.
