Have a remington 700 SPSV in 17FB I also have put it in a HS stock that I put PTG bottom on with AI 223 mags. If I have it rechambered to 17REM will I have to have the barrel set back? I assume the AI mags will function without a hickup after the rechamber? My plan is to put a 223 barrel on it, But why not try and have some fun with the factory barrel first.
Any info would be great, CZ

AI mags should indeed function without a hiccup. You may have to check the rails to see if they are different between the FB and the Rem.

The extractor is slightly different on the Fireball bolt as well.

I have a Remington SPS that started life as a FB and was rechambered to a 17 Remington (not by me). It runs without a hickup and kicks brass a good 2 feet when extracted. I can't speak to the mags you are talking about, but I would suggest this; the Remington bolts for the fireballs are different than ones meant for 223 length cartridges and are pretty rare. They bring a premium on some forums because they are specifically made to extract fireball length cases. Why not sell that action and buy one set up for the longer cases? You might end up making money on the deal.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.
