The Mayans had it right. If youre going to predict the future, its best to aim far beyond your life expectancy, lest you wind up red-faced in a bunker overstocked with Spam and ammo.

I walked on grizzly trails in Alaska. A lot. I don't remember getting killed. YMMV.

Sad the guy was killed, terrible, but what kinda LE officer rides his mountain bike where he darn well knows bears are, without a gun?

Liberal mind set. Never happened to him before, why would it happen now??? His buddy apparently didn't have one either.

"WHERE YOU GOING BRRR..." I always tell my hunting buddy, I dont have to out run the bear, I just have to out run you. People ask what is the right caliber for bear, I tell them what ever I have on hand at the time. Just put a cap in your partners knee.

I worked one summer in college in Glacier and one of my co-workers was killed by a griz near Many Glacier. He was off-trail, hiking alone through huckleberry bushes trying to get to a cave he saw on a map and jumped a sow and cubs. They found his body a couple weeks later. Bear activity was extremely high that summer - I went to go hike the Highline trail multiple times and it was shut down due to high bear activity.

My prayers for his family. The bear knocked him off his bike. I doubt that a gun would have helped much. He'd have to stop the bike to draw it. It sounds like the bear was on him before he could have reacted.

Is open or concealed carry a regular practice in Glacier? Headed there this summer.
