It is not just about guns ... but that is certainly part of it. Even though the farmers, ranchers, and small city folk you live with are undoubtedly "the salt of the earth" ... Unfortunately we are governed in Sacramento by a bunch of wild-eyed, howl-at-the-moon Democrap liberals / socialists. Gov. Moonbeam (aka Jerry-The-Fairy) is termed out, but, in all likelihood he will be followed by Gavin Newsom, or somebody just as bad. No matter how cool and level-headed your farmer, rancher, and small city friends might be, at the end of the day the liberals / socialists in Sacramento will be calling the shots .... Not them. Gun control is just one component in the liberal / socialist agenda. I look forward to moving to a state with lower taxes, (don't even let me get started about that), a state that recognizes the importance of the Second Amendment, a state with affordable housing and less congestion, a state that is business friendly, and a state that recognizes personal freedom and liberty.

I wish you well, and I hope that you, and others like you, will able to "take California back." I just don't think it will happen in my lifetime ... maybe it will in yours.

This is basically the NY SAFE Act - West Coast. Hopefully Cali gun owners will follow the NY and CT gun owner's lead (<10% compliance rate) and not register their semi-auto rifles. The real PITA is the ammo restrictions. I shot rimfire benchrest and bought my match Eley ammo out-of-state and had it shipped. We test by lot number, and then order as much as we can of the stuff our rifles liked. The SAFE Act has put a huge crimp in my ability to purchase ammo in a timely manner. Local stores don't stock much of this type of ammo and ammo purchases can only go thru a FFL or registered ammo retailer, face to face. I have no problem finding and buying shotgun target ammo. Here's what the pols in NY learned regarding the background checks for ammo. The Feds refused to take on that additional workload for a state law. So, this meant NY would have to hire people to conduct the checks and develop their own background check system. Here we are 3 years after passage of that onerous law and NY still doesn't have it in place. My guess is they may never get it going. The real bad news is the Supreme Court declined to rule on the Constitutionality of this law, which has been upheld in the lower courts.

No disagreements with most replies, we are all ultimately in the same boat, be it "our fault" or your elected officials following ours, we all stand together.

Yea, I was working in Rochester NY about 4-5 days a week about once a month, sometimes over the weekend for a 2 week travel, over ~ 2010-2013 and went to several gun shops in my spare time. Oddest thing I ever heard of when I asked to have the guy move an old H&R 22lr handgun from the bottom of the glass case to on top for me to see/ handle it. He asked for my "card" and I replied what card. Seems NY wouldn't allow anyone without some handgun card to touch a handgun in a store, and I suspect friends had to also follow this law? I thought California was bad, and it is.

BTW, Between Dinosaur and Delmonico's, I really miss working on the big Lasers....lol And Wegmans is pretty cool too, and that danged frozen custard shop on the lake.

I was born in Idaho but grew up in Northern California. Every person north of Sacramento could vote conservitive and would lose out to just San Francisco alone!!!Not LA not San Diego. It's population density.

I love the state and what it has to offer. The hunting and fishing are as good as it gets. Unfortunately it's ruled by idiots. I was lucky and got out but I have friends that still live there. They can't leave due to jobs and family. When the opportunity changes there gone. It's easier said than done to just pack up and leave. It's miopic to think otherwise.

They're not gun bills, they're anti-Constitutional precedent setting cases.

No, it's myopic to believe that freedom and quality of life should come easy.

WHY too many people are controlled by possessions and excuses.

Damn gun laws anyway!
As of five minutes ago, a permit to Concealed carry is no longer needed here smile open carry has always been legal.

Where a person lives is still a choice in this country.

That card, to which you refer, is a NY State Pistol Permit (License to Carry a Pistol). I worked in a gun shop in the late 70s and it's been that way since before then. No shop is allowed to allow a customer to handle a handgun without a permit, though some will. We are not legally allowed to let anyone shoot or handle our handguns, and, the handguns that we possess or shoot have to be specifically noted on our permit. My father also had a permit, and he had my handguns put on his permit so that he was allowed to carry or shoot them. We've been dealing with this system since 1911 with the passage of the Sullivan Act. You might be shocked to hear that this Bill was a knee-jerk reaction to a murder-suicide in NYC initiated by a NYC Coroner's Office recommendation. Another tidbit, NYC issued permits are good upstate, but upstate issued permits are not good in NYC. The permits are issued by the County one resides in and the procedure, certain requirements and certain additional restrictions can and do vary.

SACRAMENTO -- Less than three weeks after the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, the California Legislature on Thursday approved a raft of bills that aim to keep the state's citizens safer from deadly gun violence by placing sweeping new restrictions on firearms owners.

[b]The Assembly endorsed legislation that seeks to ban possession of high-capacity ammunition magazines and close a loophole in the state's existing assault weapons ban by prohibiting long guns with "bullet buttons" that make it easier for shooters to swap magazines.

In the Senate, lawmakers advanced bills that would restrict residents from buying more than one long gun in a 30-day period and expand the group of people who may request a gun violence restraining order. They will consider a few more bills later today.

"This is designed to try to (prevent) a tragedy just waiting to happen," said Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, speaking about Assembly Bill 2607, which would allow people to ask judges to confiscate guns from coworkers they believe to be dangerous.

The package of a dozen bills had been introduced following last December's terrorist killings in San Bernardino, and lawmakers planned to act on the measures this summer before the recent massacre at an Orlando gay nightclub, where 49 people were slaughtered. So the timing of the votes has put California in a national spotlight because it's widely assumed the Republican Congress won't endorse any gun bills this year -- despite Democrats' recent protests.

All but a few Democrats voted in favor of the four measures the Assembly considered over the passionate objections of many Republicans, who insisted the bills will do nothing to keep guns or bullets out of criminals' hands.

"Many want to blame those horrors and those terrorist attacks on law-abiding citizens," said Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield, speaking about the mass shootings in Orlando and San Bernardino. "But you can't control murder. You can't stop insanity."

Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León's bill to require background checks for ammunition
sales sparked the greatest debate in the Assembly because it seeks to override a provision of Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's gun control ballot measure before voters have even considered it.

Successful legislation authored by de León in 2009 regulated the sale of ammunition, but a judge later ruled that its definition of ammunition was too vague to enforce.

De León's Senate Bill 1235 seeks to remedy the problem by defining ammunition as "one or more loaded cartridges consisting of a primer case, propellant and with one or more projectiles."

Newsom's Safety for All initiative also seeks to regulate the sale of ammunition and require background checks for prospective bullet buyers, but the bill and the ballot measure differ in their approach on this issue. And in a brazen move, de León amended SB 1235 to state that his bill's ammunition background check system must take effect should Newsom's initiative pass in November.

"This bill is a classic razzle dazzle rigmarole bait and switch," said Assemblyman Brian Jones, R-Santee, who joined a chorus of GOP Assembly members who questioned whether de León actions were even legal. The nonpartisan Legislative Counsel, however, says they are.

The Senate on Thursday morning overwhelmingly approved legislation that aims to place a measure on the November ballot to amend Proposition 47 by classifying the theft of a firearm as a felony even if the value of the gun is less than $950. It passed 33-1.

Legislation requiring background checks for the purchase of gun parts
that could be used to assemble a firearm also cleared the upper house easily.

The only bill that struggled to win enough support to advance was Assemblyman Phil Ting's AB 2607 to expand the group of people who may request gun violence restraining orders.

While the current law only applies to family members and law enforcement officers, the new legislation would extend that right to mental health workers, employers, co-workers and school employees.

Sen. Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres, argued the proposal would be ripe for abuse, especially in the workplace. "(Have) you ever had co-workers that you haven't gotten along with?" he asked, insisting that coworkers who have been hostile to one another would use the legislation.

Initially, only 18 senators voted in favor of the bill, but three Democrats later added their support, giving the legislation the 21 votes it needed to advance.

In a rare move, Gov. Jerry Brown may act on the package of bills as soon as this afternoon ahead of a midnight deadline for Newsom to decide whether to pull his gun control initiative from the November ballot.

The measure tackles some of the same topics addressed by the legislation.

Wow!

I read the list.

Looks like I'd better move there!

When these laws are enacted you'll have a completely safe Utopia there!

Only one that makes any sense is that gun theft should be a felony....but it also should be punished as such, which bis where I'm sure they'll drop the ball....
