My Ruger American Predator gets loaded to 2.815 (140 ELD-M). Don't have my notes or recall how far off I am, but it shoots very well there.

Mine are longer than that, 2.830 with 123's. I'd want to set it up where I could be against the rifling and have about .030 space in the magazine at a minimum. Otherwise you have a hell of a time adjusting oal for accuracy. It's also kind of nice to not have to single feed them!

They fit in your mag @ 2.830 with .030 room left? Wow.

It's a Savage action though, have no idea what you're working on.

Berger lists the nose lengths for their VLD bullets. I'd think you could combine that with the chamber dimensions to find out what length freebore will allow you to fit the round inside the mag box and still leave room to grow. I'd be leaning toward the VLD hitting lands at 2.80 inches. Not sure if that will let you shoot Hornady factory ammo though.

Since you plan to shoot those various bullets, have you looked at any of them with a comparator and made dummy rounds? That's what I do. All you need is the comparator nut from Sinclair, some calipers, and your reloading components to get pretty dang close.

In my saami reamered chamber 140 vlds seated to 2.81" coal are a little short of the lands. Haven't loaded them in a while so am a little rusty on the exact number sorry. With that longer box of yours the saami throat might be ok.
