Without question, the Winchester. Why? value and of course aesthetics. I happen to have both and find the 416's barrel length to be excessive for that caliber. The action needs some tuning as well. The 70 on the other hand, is perfect "as is"
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

So it's Winchester for the win! I thought this would be the consensus.

Thank you sir. I'm sorry for not answering your original question. I've had a CZ 550 and believe it's not as refined as the pre 64 in some areas and it also has a somewhat fragile trigger with too many parts. I also wonder why anyone would need a set trigger on a DG rifle. I like the pre 64 because it is robust, accurate, and pretty much stupid simple. The bolt is easy to get to, and I prefer the wing safety over the somewhat sharp safety lever of the CZ. It also balances well for me and is fairly aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The CZ is a damn nice rifle too, but needs a little more refinement to suit my needs. Where's dirtfarmer? He'd be the one to ask about the CZ550. He's had some pretty nice AHR rifles. Now those have the refinements I'm talking about. Good luck with your decision..

For hunting the CZ without hesitation with this qualification, at least a number one upgrade from American Hunting Rifles. Twenty inch barrel, proper sights, three position safety, and an AHR trigger from Wayne with that big double square bridge action and huge magazine box is a perfect combination for that long fat 416 Rigby.
A 375 would be a different story.
