I use 15x56 Leica HDs presently but as good as they are could use a bit more power.
Does anybody have experience with the big Nikon Porro 18 x 80 Astrolux bino's?

Thanks.

Good question, I will find it surprising you get anyone
with experience, and I hope you will.

I really didn't expect many responses and wondered if there'd be any but this type of optic perfectly fits a certain hunting niche for me assuming good quality and that is what I'd like to know.

If you move up to more than 15x, you will find most of use went to Doctor 30x80s or Highlanders. Never seen anyone use another glass in the field (of quality) more than 15x except the aforementioned pair and the 16x70 Fujis.

George, I have wondered the same as when I checked in to the Nikon Astroluxe series I found they were in the same class as the Nikon E and SE series, which are as good as bonoculars get ! Bar-none !
If I had a need for large binoculars I would own a set .

If you want "big eyes", the Doctor 40x80 or Kowa 32x82 is as good as you are going to get.

I would myself prefer the Doctor 40x80!!

But, you could try the Fujinon 16x70 FMT-SX, nearly half the price of the Nikon and almost as good.

Thanks for the responses. The Fuji's at 16x don't give me enough over my 15x56 Leicas.

I also wasn't looking for an attach' case-sized pair of bino's that cost like a custom rifle.

That's how I came to the Nikons-18xs at $1400-2000. Not bad for good optics if they are and Phil, that's a good comparison.

Actually, the 20x80 Zeiss Image-Stabilized would be perfect but...ouch!

Thanks all again.

I haven't looked through any of the Vortex Kaibab binos, but they do have the 20x56 now. It would give you more mag but with lesser quality...
