Probably already posted, but I didn't see it. Looks like it is a Wahlburg series, so who knows, might be good, might be junk,

The book was 10 times better than the movie but I'm looking forward to the series. It has to better than a lot of stuff that's on.

Just watched the movie for the third time last night. I have a copy I have to replay every so often.

The book was better, but the movie was good also.
Its great that Stephen Hunter gets his gun stuff correct!

Yep, the book was better, but movie was good too. I read the book a few years before the movie came out. The final battle on the hill was very different in the book.

IIRC he thanks Mr. Barsness in one of his later books, along with some other gun writers, for their help in getting stuff right.

Wahlburg is producing, Ryan Phillippe is cast as Bob Lee Swagger. I don't know if that would be my choice of casting, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it.

The book was leagues ahead of the movie. I was delighted in that a couple of scenes in the movie were EXACTLY as my mind saw them when reading the book. But all in all, the movie just neutered the story too much. As a stand alone movie, it was decent. As a movie of a book, it was pizz-poor.

I'll probably watch an episode at some point, but I'm not holding my breath.

Stephen Hunter is a shooter and a hunter.

Swagger.

Swaggart is the erstwhile preacher.

Not even close to the Hunter book. "Nadine Memphis" instead of Nick Memphis fer crying out loud!

I hear what you're saying, in fact the first thing I thought of was Reacher. Ryan Phillippe is, IMO, a bit too much of a pretty boy to be Swagger, but it might work. Like I said, I'll reserve judgement until I see an episode or two.

Tom Cruise (5'7", 150) as Jack Reacher (6'5", 250) is just a joke.

Casting 5'8" - 170lb Mark Wahlberg, as real life Navy SEAL, 6'5" - 250lb Marcus Luttrell, in the movie, Lone Survivor, was every bit as much of a far stretch.

Apparently in the movie industry, it's all about who's hot and who's not at that given time period. Casting lead roles, and to a degree major supporting roles, seems to boil down to who can draw the largest audience to make the most money. Whether or not an actor actually fits a role physically or otherwise is usually inconsequential.

I'm waiting on a film version of Pale Horse Coming, the book where Earl Swagger assembles a crew of shooters, including very thinly disguised versions of Jack, Elmer, Askins, Audie Murphy, and Ed McGivern to raid a southern prison work camp to free the people enslaved there. Pretty good read. Hope whoever does it doesn't screw it up too bad and turn it into an anti-gun rant.

What fresh Hell is this?
