I've about drove myself crazy researching cars for my daughter. This is her first car. I want something #1 safe, under $10k, dependable, and of coarse stylish. First off I was going to buy a Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, or Nissan Altima but reading at www.carcomplaints.com there are major issues with every one of them. I honestly don't know what to buy now. It seems like there are significant issues with every make and model. Should I just ignore the unexpected throttle acceleration of the Toyota, and the break and transmission problems of the Honda. I would also have to ignore the CVT transmission issues of the Nissan. Anyway, what would you guys buy for under $10K, preferably more like $8K and under 100K miles? Go with the Camry, if possible get her one that is white and has a backing camera, this will allow her to be seen easily, hook her phone up for hands free and jack an iPod in for music as well. My lass has one and it is viewed very favourably by her peers. Best recommendation so far and I would add make sure they know how to use the bluetooth, I cannot tell you how many people I see texting and driving or fixated on their phones .

How about 1k for a 2000ish Buick Century. Big old boats that run and run. Let them get the hang of driving for a couple years then maybe look for something nicer.

Honda and Toyota are usually good cars. Taurus and Impala are almost as good IMO.

Ford Freestyle AWD wagon, Ford's short lived version of the Subaru Outback. They are excellent cars and since they are out of production, you can buy they well equipped for a very favorable price.

I have been through several teenage drivers. Get a Honda Civic in good shape, low miles, and stock. For $10000 you can get one just a few years old. Great fuel mileage, few problems, and easy to work on.

I like the idea of an 8th gen Civic or if the gas mileage doesn't bother you, the Jeep Cherokee. I had a 2006 Civic that was a great investment. My 17 year old drives a Cherokee, and it has shrugged off two fender benders that were the other driver's fault and never missed a day on the road.

Bought my oldest a 2011 Ford Fusion with 60k on it for just under $10k
Bought it a year ago and so far no issues. Med sized car with four doors and lots of airbags. Gets about 25-27mpg with mixed driving.

My soon to be 15 year old will learn on the old 1986 Toyota 4x4 manual, drive it for 1 year then move up the 2002 Tacoma auto.

Decommissioned crown vic police interceptor
You'd be a fool not to go that route. Built solid, easy and inexpensive for ol dad to work on unless youre a pansy and pay people to change oil
Can be had for less than $2000 on most govt auction sites. And many are liquidated with less than 100k on them.
you can shop just a little harder and score a detective special without all the holes drilled into it.

Whatever you decide on , remember the most important thing-- will she look cute in it? Good point! As a father, you want a car so ugly it will repel boys from your precious daughter. A former police car, like the Crown Victoria suggested above should do nicely... John

That one has been on my watch list. It was ranked as very dependable by carcomplaints.
