A good friend of mine is looking for a bolt action rifle in 7/08 caliber--with a gray laminated stock. Whitetail hunting in Pa. He does not reload currently but he is a good candidate in the future--he loves guns and hunting just as much as we do. Any suggestions? Rem.-Sav.-Mar.-Ruger-or a semi-custom gun? He would like to stay near or under $1K for gun and scope. Thanks for any suggestions. Nick

Would be the way to go if he wants a gray laminated stock. They weigh down a nice 7-08 IMHO---2MG

I'd go for the the LSS Mtn too, albeit in the brown laminated stock.

The LSS model is a gray laminate if memory serves. Don't think they do that one in 7mm-08.

Ruger might. Tikka for sure does.

I've only seen brown,in the s/a SS,but that is moot.

The rifle is fabulous....................

Remmie cranks alotta variants and grey might could exist in MR,though I've never seen one.

Only grey laminates I've seen in the flesh were VLS and LSS BDL sporters........................

Can't like either of said choices.....T3-- too much plastic(bottom "metal"/magazine), non-integral recoil lug, bolt handle that looks like a nutsack on a hot day. If I had 100 Boyd's stocks sittin' here, the only way I'd use one is if I ran out of fire wood......2MG

I have a SS Remington Model Seven with a brown laminate stock which shoots any bullet sub MOA with Varget powder. I know Remington made these for a while and they are sweet rifle if you can get your hands on one.

Have a friend who just purchased a Ruger M77 Mark II in the compact version with the gray laminated stock. Beautiful rifle and shoots great.

Remington has a new special run out there that is basically a Ti stock on a mountain action and barrel. Weighs less than 6#, 22" barrel, costs less than $800. Available at Gander Mountain. Go down a page or two on this forum and it ought to be there.

Correction it is in the Hunting Rifle section, and it is synthetic, not laminated.

I've got a Ruger LSS Compact 7mm-08. This is my "go to gun" very pleased here. It shoots 140 TSX'es well under 1"
Was wanting to shoot 120's, but figgured, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Another vote here for the Tikka. Can't beat the price, floated barrel, trigger and out of the box accuracy.
Perfect hunting tool.
