A friend and I have both started shooting in a local 600 yard benchrest match. One of the problems we have encountered is mirage off the barrel as it warms up. (we get 20 minutes to fire sighters and 10 shots for record). Anyway, I recall from my NRA Highpower Rifle days that many shooters use a mirage strap on top of their barrel. These normally attach to the front of the receiver and the front sight base. Question is, if you don't HAVE a front sight base, what is the hot setup for attaching the strap? We would appreciate any suggestions from folks who have used these things. Thanks.

Interesting. I think I used to see on scoped guns, a simple threaded hole with a screw in it at the muzzle... the bands had a metal frame like a coat hanger type thing to go around the front post and back post so to speak.
Maybe F class guys will chime in!

Yeah, rost, that threaded hole at the muzzle end was likely a screw hole used to mount the front sight. I hadn't thought about the F class guys, bet they use 'em.

OTOH, depending on your muzzle diameter, you likely can find a clamp on front sight base.... AR space guns used em a lot rather than drill and tap.

Lets see, OT now too, there was an older couple from the nwest, IIRC, that had stuff, bullets and so on... no clue who they were right now, but I suspect they might be gone by now too....???? They were always at Perry on competitors row.
