For the person desiring to get into BPCR, here is the perfect "entrance" rifle; [color:#FF0000]Shiloh #3 Sporter .45-70 Heavy 30" Octagonal bbl[/color] It's listed a few dollars below a brand new one, but you don't have to wait for it. Yes, I'm an enabler, too... Ed

Don, I only posted this to get someone else to buy it so I am not tempted to buy a second Shiloh... Ed

I agree, particularly those of this level of quality. The only thing stopping me from buying it is money. Besides, I haven't completely sorted out the one I have. I hate to leave something unfinished and there are just too many bullets, too much powder, and not enough time. I hope all is well in your house. It's been a while since we chatted! Ed

I took a rifle just like that except for a pewter nose cap and shot a cape buff and zebra with 30 to 1 alloyed 530 gr paper patch ammunition at 1230 fps, it will work!

I wouldn't classify that as a starter rifle. That rifle will do anything you need it to do and kill any animal on the planet with the proper load. Rabbits to elephant, take your pick.

The ONLY one you'd need to hand down for generation after generation, day in, day out, "Feed the family and lots of friends" use.
The chambering ?
...do anything a larger, longer, dick waving cartridge can do, as well, or better.

GTC I will admit to the thought of double trophy fees. ;] Sure enough Sharpsguy, 500+ grains of 458 cal lead has been getting it all done for better than a century.

And without a scope or the worry of factory available ammunition.
