Get one of these. It'll be the last vise you will ever buy;

WILTON Tradesman Vise

I inherited one from my Dad. My grandkids will still be using it after I'm long gone.

Going from APDDSN0864's suggestion this turned up. Special edition with a sledge for 4 bills. Seems a pretty solid offering.

Ed, the one you saw hangin' off the end of that flimsy welding bench in my "lurk ?"

...Mid 90s,... $US 40.00 at the S.V. Flea Market. It was OLD when I bought it.

Wish guys would clean and SHARPEN / Re-harden their vice jaws periodically,....service the lead screws, etc.

longer cheaters and snipes would not be needed.

Major gripe about the Wiltons is the damned handles are too short to begin with, ditto the swivel lock handles.

One actually needs several vices,....I saty all over that.

What blew up. I have repaired a few. Did you pull the threads out of the main nut. Or did you break the casting. I have made new screws and main nuts out of Acme all thread and nuts. I have also turned Acme threads both external and internal.

I have yet to need a vise. I just use my hand, or my teeth if I need both hands to work.
