I have acquired a sendero stock for nearly nothing and have a spare Remington long action laying around that needs something done with it. I have decided to build a 280 ackley IMP, but I'm stuck on whether or not to have it bedded with devcon or some other compound. Suggestions would be appreciated. I know Sendero stocks may not be everyones first choice, but thats all I have to work with right now.

This will probably go to my son, so I want to turn it into something special.

The 280 Ack Imp is a great round for just about anything in the USA and the bedding material you use is irrelevant. My opinion with this rifle I would build it light and not do to heavy and it will get used a lot more and have less time sitting in the safe. PacNor would be a great place to have it barreled.

I would definately have the stock bedded. Different gunsmith's like different materials but they all work. Let your gunsmith make that call.

Bea is right; I'd avoid letting the Sendero theme rule the build and keep it reasonably light so it is as versatile a rifle as the cartridge its chambered to.

Eddie Fosnaugh has gotten excellent reports around here and I've seen his rifles in action. He does a brilliant job; his bedding is a work of art. You could do a lot worse than starting by talking w/ him:

Weight wont be an issue since most of our hunting is from an elivated box blind about 12 feet up. Rifle rides in to hunting location on four wheeler and carried rest of way about 100 yards. Its more important to me that it's built right. Besides, He wants a Sendero. I cant stand to see him buy a sendero and then have to pay to accurize it. May as well start the build in that direction and have it right from the start for about the same money since all I need is a barrel and a good smith to complete the build.

Just got off the phone with him. Seems to be a really top shelf guy. Looking forward to working with him on this build.

If he is the owner of fosnaugh customs then yes. Immaculately done. After talking to him and hearing the care to detail he puts into his work, then Im sure this build will be a rewarding experience.
