Hey out there, We (brother and myself) used our pref points this year for a first rifle hunt in 76. Has someone out there hunted this unit in the last few years? maybe you that can give me a little help?
you can pm me if you like. It was a 14 year wait for what was a 5-6 point unit, I would just like to get some info if possible. I'd be willing to swap some info. been hunting colorado for quite a few years.

A couple years ago a wildlife officer stopped to check our licenses while hunting in 76 and he told us something interesting. He said a kind of new style of hunting had developed for hunting the burned portions. He said elk could be spotted at great distances through the burned timber but that they could see you too, so it set up a lot of flanking and maneuvering.
We did not hunt the burned portions and by now much of the low cover has probably begun to reestablish.
Early archers seemed to have vastly different opinions from one another. One veteran who said his group had hunted there for decades vowed never to return. Another fella said bowhunting the pockets along the burn edges was great and got a fine bull.
We did real well there. We spend a lot of time at or above treeline.
