I finally got my McWoody Edge back from McM. I had glassed it and noticed the finish was flawed. I sent it back for a refinish, no charge. They did a fairly good job, almost perfect, close enough... I have several McWoodies, this one has the prettiest grain, darkest steaks, etc. This Edge Mark X Mauser stock weighs 28 oz., the gun with 2.5-8 Conquest in Talley rings, weighs 8#, 4 oz and handles like a lighter gun, balances great. Barrel is a CM #2 Shilen at 23". This '50's FN action already had the three panel bolt handle and Canjar trigger when I bought it on the Fire Classifieds. I've set the trigger at 2 1/2 #'s. You'll notice a set screw ahead of the trigger. That's the trigger spring adjustment screw. The Canjar has two ball bearings that butt each other at 90*, transferring the spring tension to the trigger. You would think that wouldn't be efficient, but because the trigger moves such a small distance, it works pretty well; you can't feel friction from that set up. This Swede loves Scenar bullets, especially 139's and 155's, shooting both around half inch. It does OK with other bullets, inch or better, just shines with those two. I can live with that. Jim Kobe fitted the barrel and I got him to alter the two position swing safety to not lock the bolt. Here's a link to an almost mess up, and shows the Swede in a B&C Medalist, which is a good bit heavier than this Edge. Also shows the action as it looked before Jim got it. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/9781434/1DF

Thanks,
It's not the custom wood stock this gun probably deserves, but it looks good and the Edge is lighter than a wood stock, probably 10-12 oz lighter.
And, it sorta looks like a fancy wood stock.

Yeah, ole Elmer would call that a pest gun, for sure... Not sure how he's take to the .223AI craze here on the Fire... DF

Well, if I was out in the bush, sneaking up on DG critters, a locked down bolt handle would be Kohser. With just a two position safety, I'll give up the locked bolt to load and unload on safety. Just me... DF

Mathman, tell Jorge this is just a "pest rifle", not a DG gun... I'll agree with him on the big guns, I'd want a locked down bolt, too... I'd want a three position safety on one of those, didn't want to spend what it would take to upgrade two position to three position for what this gun will be used for, "pests" like WT's and hogs... Great looking rifle DF shooting a great cartridge. Close, but not quite as accurate as a certain M-700/Brux .257R that we're both familiar with... DF

Looks almost like the one I am building.
I wanted the McMillan stock myself, but the grip is to small and drop of comb to low.

DF I really like this rifle a lot!
With the custom bolt did you have to send the action to McM for custom fitting?

Yes.
Because of Mauser variations I had to send it in for them to fit at $50 an hour. So, it ended up a bit more expensive than planned, still pretty neat.
The bolt handle was done by a master smith, just don't know who. The action was very well prepped, Canjar and swing safety already there. Was in the white.

Another point about that bolt handle. Due to its straight, non-curved shape, the scope has to be mounted slightly higher than normal. The set up you see is the absolute lowest possible. In fact, I had to belt sand a flat spot on the Butler Creek lens cap so the bolt handle wouldn't rub. The handle is great to use and IMO, looks pretty cool... DF

Sweet...a nice looking bolt handle; graceful yet functional. A real extractor. Nice stock lines.
I'd hunt that anywhere.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
