R26 data for 150's in the 270 Win look very good.

How would you load R26 for the 280?

I would think to use starting point data for the 270 and work up?

Seems logical.....but

Yep.

In general, I've found .280's will take about the same powder charge as .270's with bullets weighing 10 more grains. In other words, if the .270 will handle 60 grains of H4831 with 130's (average in most loading manuals) then a .280 will handle 60/4831 with 140's. Though of course that somewhat depends on the particular bullets.

I have some RL 26 to try in my 280 AI but N165 shoots so good I haven't been nudged to change.

I just went through the same exercise with two 280 AIs and 150s (Scenar-Ls) and ended up with 7828 as the best powder for both.

What velocity did you get with 7828?

Higher than I expected, I got 3100 fps with 62 grains and a 24" barrel, and Nosler's data tops out at 3100 with 63 grains and a 26" barrel. I backed down to 60.5 grains for best accuracy, getting 3025 fps there.
