Alamosa,

Thanks for the stories. Peyton sounds like a great pup. You have my heartfelt wishes for peace and condolence. Godspeed to your boy.

Sorry for your loss. They get in amongst the fibers of our hearts and there's no fighting that. You just love them back.

Sorry for your loss.

There is something about heelers.

We had one when I was a kid, and our last two have been heeler-mix from the shelters.

They really are smart, and get deep into your heart.

Every person should get a minimum of one good dog. Peyton was obviously one such. RIP

They're lives are so short because they love so hard. It sounds like you gave each other great memories. RIP Peyton.

Hate to read these anytime, but today more than usual. A few hours ago I held my beloved Blaze, my companion of 17 years, as she breathed her last. Damn, it hurts

It's tough to lose them, but way better than never having them.

I learned in just one short story what he was a great dog he was. That says a lot about him.

I've lost a few great dogs myself over the years, and sometimes I have to remind myself that the good far outweighs the bad when the memories hurt, and that I knew that their lives are relatively short going in...it was worth it and that's why I've done it over and over.

I hope I see all my dogs again in the afterlife. There will be a lot of catching up to do.

Sorry for your loss. Hang tough.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
