Found one today while looking around for a mod 70 classic in 243.

I wish I had this kind of disposable income, but it's way out of my price range.

I wouldn't. Someone's monkeyed with that one too much for it to be at that price point...

That's what always scares me about buying Pre-64s. I don't know them well enough to really know if I'm getting ripped off or not.

I'd probably just stick to shooter grade rifles anyway. Safe queens are fine, but when I finally do buy a pre-64, I want to be able to hunt with it.

Despite its modifications (extractor, bolt handle and ???) if it is a real .300 Savage, it is worth far more than the price being asked. Unfortunately, the likelihood of it being real is very low.

No real data exists, but many collectors believe there are more counterfeit .300 Savage rifles out there than genuine. .300 Savage was the rarest of the production calibers, and a .308 or .243 Sporter rifle can become a .300 Savage with only a single part change - the barrel.
