I have a new-to-me Montana in 7-08.
Going to go out and see what it shoots the best.
Curious what others have found that works best in their 7-08 Montana?

They're all individuals... but I'd start with heavier boattail bullets, like the 150 NBT.

Mine likes 120 grain Ballistic Tips at about 3050 MV, using Varget.

I haven't tried anything heavier than 140's. My 708 likes both 120's and 140's with RL-15 and Big Game. The most accurate so far has been 120 TTSX with RL-15.

I eventually rebarreled mine, but the factory barrel shot well w/ everything I tried: 120 TTSX, 120 NBT, 140AB, 139SST, 162 AMAX. Best accuracy was with 150 Scenar L's. RL17 is all I ever used in mine.

120 grain TTSX, and RL15. Never tried anything else. Hammered a big buck in Michigan last year. He didn't like it one bit!

120 gr Ballistic Tip, 120 gr TTSX, 140 gr Partition or Accubond. All with either RL 15 or Big Game. Those will do all that needs doing by me.
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.

Try a 139-140 grain bullet with either 43 grains of WW-748 or 47 grains of WW-760.

Why does a man who is 50 pounds overweight complain about a 10 pound rifle being too heavy? SCI Life Member 4**

Barnes 120 Lead free ammo in mine.
I got it from Whittakers, they only had 1 more left. Made sure the magazine box was loose, glassed the action and first 1" of the barrel. Made sure when I tighten both the front and rear action screws I do not feel any action stress/ movement.
Installed a VX3 4.5-14 W/ bc reticle, sighted it in for zero at 200 yards. Groups at 100 and 200 yards both under .7", and the 3 at 300 yards dropped 7.1", which turns out to be the first hash mark down on the reticle. It, sadly, was 0.95" c to c. My Skippy rifles in 17 and 20 calibers don't shoot that good, with me driving...
Ordered a lifetime of Barnes ammo that afternoon. Hoping to ventilate a Mule deer in 3 weeks with it.

In my Montana, 140 AB'S, Ramshot's max load of Big Game over GM215 primers gave me 2900 FPS and consistent groups hovering around an inch. A max load of Varget was similar in accuracy and only slightly lower in velocity.
