The flag isn't the problem. The problem is students using the flag in a disrespectful manner. Easy to be critical of someone's decision without all of the facts. But the real problem here is the way the flag was used at the ball games by students. The anger should be directed towards the students. Had they brought the flags to be used in a manner that respected the flag it would be different. I've coached sports for quite a few years, with one team in particular being heavily Hispanic, several teams being heavily black. I don't believe I've ever seen supporters bring an American flag to a game when the opponents were Caucasian or black. When the opponents are Hispanic or black, people seem to show up just to yell slurs at the kids, especially in the state tournaments. You would not believe the things they will yell, simply disgusting. People are decrying this as, "the kids should be allowed to display the flag they're proud of" but I'd like to know how many of the kids displays one at home, or do they only buy them to use at these games to stir up the other side. Can't say I'm in favor of banning any flags, but using them solely to get a rise out of an opposing team is just pathetic and unsportsmanlike.

I've coached sports, mainly football for years and have never seen what you claim. My experiences are quite the opposite. When we've played inner city teams or teams with a high percentage of minority's the behavior from their sideline was abhorrent. They were mean and unnecessarily violent. One dad jumped the fence and was going to charge me until he realized that would have been a mistake. The only time myself, other coaches and players were threatened or followed by a crowd in the parking lot was by blacks and Samoans.

Exactly. Several thousand parents and students show up for the game each carrying an American flag. Screw that Marxist Socialist inspired "politically correct" fool! L.W.

The American and Texas flags fly over every field in Texas. Do they not have flags flying there? We say the pledge before every sporting event. Do they do that in every state??
